Farnsworth is no longer the 8th inning man!!!! Hail King Koopa!!!!!

Actually I could see Girardi using Marte as a lefty specialist instead of a set up man ala Torre.

Aren't you kind of worried Retardi is going to overthink having the lefty option? When have we gotten burned by needing a lefty this year?

I'm skeptical Marte can maintain his success with us. Wasn't his ERA on the road this year real high? Someone was saying that.

If he uses Marte as a lefty specialist he should be fired. He should pitch the 8th with Farnsworth (you know Retardi won't demote him).

He gave up 7 runs in 1.1 innings in two road outings in April. Since then he's been fine.

I just looked up the splits and it seems real flukey. All his peripherals are fine besides the ERA. But we have to be skeptical

I'm worried that he will use him religiously only against lefties like Torre used to with relievers. If he uses him as a set up man I'm happy to have him. Like you said, not having a lefty hasn't burned us yet. As for the home road splits, he plays in a hitters park, so if anything I'm sure thats a random fluke stat.

He could mix and match like Torre used to do with Nelson and Stanton.

The whole 7th inning, 8th inning stuff is such nonsense.

PNC is a hitter's park? When I was there, the dimensions seemed so deep for the most part.

I though it favored righty hiters. I could be thinking of Milwaukee, but I thought it was both.

Left field seemed insanely deep. Those RF dimensions are certainly good for a lefty. Funny that their best hitters are righties

I've been saying for years that's the type of deep pen I want with several setup options, not a set 8th inning guy. Things have become so specialized, it's not going to happen, but that's what I prefer. You can go to Edwar, Veras, Robertson, Marte, and I guess Farnsworth at any point late in the game before Mo.

This may sound kind of stupid but the Yankees don't really need the bullpen help right now and Marte is a hot commodity. Is it possible Cash deals him for a quality 3rd-4th starter?

He better not trade him. We control him next year, we let Farnsworth walk, take the draft pick, and still have Marte/Veras for the 8th next year.

Same thing with Nady. Let Abreu walk, take the picks, and have Nady take over RF.

Cashman did a helluva job with this deal. :peace:
