POLL: JETER MOST OVERRATED PLAYER
TOPS 2-11 BARRY ZITO; A-ROD ON LIST
POST STAFF REPORT
June 19, 2008 --
Derek Jeter is great, but not that great. That's the message from a Sports Illustrated player poll.
In this week's issue of the magazine, Jeter was voted the most overrated player in Major League Baseball.
"I ain't talking about that," Jeter said after helping lead the Yankees to a 2-1 victory over San Diego, their seventh straight win. "I ain't talking about it. You guys can have fun with it."
Out of 495 players who responded, 10 percent said the Yankees captain was their top choice for too highly thought of.
Barry Zito (9 percent), J.D. Drew (7 percent), Alex Rodriguez (7 percent) and Kevin Youkilis (4 percent) were behind Jeter.
Players were not allowed to vote for teammates.
One week ago, Jeter was second to Rodriguez in a poll that asked with whom would you most like to start your team.
"I don't really have a comment about it. I love our guys, and I'll keep them," Joe Girardi said with a smirk. "I'm not going to comment on it."
Jeter is hitting .276 with four home runs and 32 RBIs after today's win. He scored the winning run.

Clearly some players think otherwise.

Jeter's Ford Challenge is deserving, but having Arod on there is silliness.
