I'm not trading a 23 yr old for a 33 yr old.

You wouldn't trade Jeff Marquez for Tim Hudson?

I agree with MM on Marte/Melky, partially because of the age thing, but I would personally drive Marquez to Atlanta if it meant getting Hudson.

I'm talking for a 1 inning pitcher...that's not a closer.

I was just messing with MM. I could go either way on that particular deal. Are the Yankees better right now with Gardner or Damon in CF and Marte in the Pen? yeah... Are they better next year with Gardner or Damon in CF and Marte in the Pen? most likely....Are they better in 2010 with Jackson in CF and Marte in the Pen? Who knows.

Let me put it this way, I don't think you are getting more for Melky and I'm 90% certain the Pirates wouldn't make that trade.

What are you holding out for? You think Melky is worth a closer?

I wouldn't deal Melky during the season. And if I dealt him after the season it would obviously have to be part of a package. I'd rather deal Damon who bring a lot more back.

If Damon does have more trade value I wouldn't mind that at all, but whats wrong with dealing Melky in the season if it can make the team better?

Because I don't know if Gardner is ready for prime time just because he's doing well at Scranton, and I'm not going to deal Melky for a 1 inning pitcher. If he's part of a package of for a major player, i.e. Sabathia, that's a different story.

He isn't going to lose speed or defense moving from AAA to the bigs and its unlikely he'd be so much worse than a .320 obp and a .395 SLG that the upgrade from Hawkins to Marte would be regretted. Again I'm not saying I disagree with you about the trade, but how much offense would you really lose?
