1. You probably won't be shocked to learn of Mussina's contempt for the always-injured Pavano, but you'll laugh nonetheless. When Mussina was negotiating a new contract with the Yankees in October 2006, Brian Cashman offered him a two-year, $18-million package.
"Brian, you're not paying me less than you're paying Carl Pavano," Mussina responded. "Don't insult me." Mussina wound up re-signing for two years and $23 million.
In February 2007, after Mussina publicly crushed Pavano in an attempt to make the dim-witted Pavano understand how little credibility he had in the Yankees' clubhouse, the two pitcher held a meeting in a small room in (then) Legends Field. I remember standing outside that room, in the main area of the clubhouse, wondering what they were saying. Mussina was kind enough to tell Feinstein.
"Were you quoted accurately in the papers today?" Pavano asked Mussina.
"Absolutely," Mussina responded.
That was my biggest LOL moment of the entire, 526-page book.

I'm thinking about picking up that book while at a Tino Martinez book signing of the Yankee Stadium Retrospective tonight. Feinstein is a great author.

I went to Bobby Murcer's a couple of weeks ago too, but that didn't go as planned. I was about 15 people away from meeting him after 2.5+ hours of waiting when they ended it. He then continued to sign some in the back room, so I did walk away with two signed copies (one for Father's Day), but missed out on meeting him.
They over-advertised the event, considering the Book Revue gets a ton of people at signings regardless, for someone who is going through a major health issue right now. There were still a TON of people behind me.
According to the employee coordinating the line, the only one which was more popular was President Clinton's (if memory serves me correctly, you went to that one). He said that at the beginning when the line was only partially down the street, though, and a couple of hours in, there were still people on the street, and around the corner. So it's possible Murcer's was even more popular. I feared I would be cut off when I saw his wife comforting him in the distance.
He said Slash's was very popular too, and that it was the only one during which they allowed the guest to smoke butts inside the store.

Bobby's cancelled the rest of his for now because he's not feeling well.

Good. It will give you two old timers more time to reminisce at Shady Oaks rest home. :peace:

If the sports bar Rookies hands out free vouchers for a plate of incredibly loaded nachos or pigs in a blanket during the signing, that would have been possible! I was starving by the end of the Murcer one, so I just went up there solo, chowed down on nachos, threw back a couple of beers, and watched the Yankees.
I'm meeting some family members for this one, though, so perhaps I would have given 473 the straight diss!!!

The Tino appearance went better than the Murcer one. The turnout was huge again, but the line moved quickly. They really rush you. I asked Tino if he'd consider coming back this year as a defensive replacement. He laughed, then said he wishes he could.

Chances are Pavano will throw a pitch this year before Hughes does.
