I hope Homie pulled an all-nighter to prepare himself (and us) for the Draft.

Some seem to think the Yankees already have a deal in place with this dude.

This is a high upside high school pick that could drop.

Ron Davis' son Ike is an OF 1Bman that some people think the yankees will draft. He's more of a polished safe pick though. Some "experts" completely ignore what Cash has been doing.

Cole is a projectable high school right-hander who compares a bit to Kyle Farnsworth. :-|

Tampering!

YF03 may as well pick a silly and/or girly name for Tanner Scheppers now. Tammy Schleppers?

We're getting to the point where the trendy name generation are being old enough to be drafted. Gerrit Cole? Actually that's just weird, not sure it's trendy.

Rob, start your skepticm of his velocity now:

Quote:

Cole was throwing 95-98 mph early and settled in at 92-94 throughout his start.

It says that under "Physical Description." So he's big and tall.

With a name like that (Tanner Scheppers), he's a lock.

He throws hard and straight. Sounds a lot like Farnsworth to me. Even any mention of the big F (in any context), makes me cringe... :MrSerious:

It said he usually has movement, but was somewhat straight that day. Anyway I'll take a high schooler that already has Kyle Farnsworth's stuff.

Steve Henson of Yahoo thinks it will be either Robbie Ross or Alex Meyer.

Agreed. Keep stockpiling these talented arms with upside. You'll hit with some, miss with others, and the odds are some will be long-term keepers.

Are there any college catchers who are only a couple of years away worth taking after the first few rounds are over? I don't want to use the first few picks on one, but wouldn't mind one later on.

I read about that guy. I'm thinking the second tier of catchers, but a guy with a high probability to make it to the bigs. I want arms early on.

Catching is weird for the Yankees because Austin Romine and Jesus Montero are both in A ball and Frank Cervelli once he comes back is in AA. Its unlikely to find a catcher with Montero or Romine's upside or Cervelli's polish, so my guess is they'll stay away until the later rounds.

MM, Ross is a boring pick to me, but I thought that about Kennedy too so we'll see. Meyer I like, but he's really risky.

Maybe they'll take this kid one day. He's faster than Posada.

I hope those catching prospects are all legit. If one or two of them could contribute in the next few years, that'd be cool. They could be products of the Homie Hype Machine though.

Haha. Cervelli is so good defensively most think he could catch in the bigs now. Many were saying that during spring training. The only question with him is will he be a Jose Molina type or Jason Kendal with less speed type.

Montero will probably have to switch positions at some point, but isn't much bigger than Joe Mauer so who knows.

Romine probably has the greatest chance of being a bust, but has the most upside as a catcher. He's got an 80 arm on the 20-80 scale and can actually hit. The Yankees like him so much they sent him to single A out of high school instead of starting him in short season ball, so far he's holding his own.

Kyle Anson, a converted third baseman, supposedly has the best pop times out of all of them, and can hit. He's a bit old for Tampa so if any of the 4 were going to be replaced by a draftee I guess it would be him.

Or maybe they are all the Matt Smiths of catchers ;)

Thanks for the analyis, Stick Homie. It sounds like they've got some promising potential replacements for Jorge. I'll be back. I'm heading out to kick Elliot Johnson's ass.

MM, it seems Meyer could end up being this years Austin Jackson or Dellin Betances. He's represented by Boras and is committed to some big school that I can't remember.

Ross and Meyer both have scholarship offers to be Wildcats:

Quote:

28. New York Yankees – Robbie Ross, LHP (Lexington, Ky., Christian Academy): The cash-flush Yankees seem to have their sights set on a high-ceiling high school arm. The most intriguing is Alex Meyer, a 6-7 right-hander from Greensburg, Ind., HS who has a scholarship to Kentucky and is represented by Boras. But if Meyer’s signability becomes a serious issue, Ross – who also has a scholarship to Kentucky – could be the next name.

This is another reason the Yankees signed Latroy Hawkins. You can get high draft picks for bad relievers.

There's a pretty good catcher named Kyle Skipworth. Imagine Kyle Farnsworth pitching to Kyle Skipworth.

Then that would mean Farnsworth is here for a few more years. :-(
