Yanks offense will be in dire straights next year

A-rod will walk. 26 mil is nothing compared to the 30 mil he could get on the open market.

"i don't see how we can, we lose all our money from Texas"-Brian Cashmen when asked if the Yankees would resign A-rod if he opts out.

That leaves the Yanks with a decision. Do they try to snatch Mike Lowell from the jaws of the Red Sox, like they did Johnny Damon (not a good long-term deal), or let Wilson Betemit start at third.

Lowell will probably want 4 years, and we'll be left with another Johnny Damon when the injuries hit him.

Betemit is cheap, but he really only has power from the left-side. That means were left with 2-4 effective right-handed hitters against a lefty starter(Jeter, Posada, Melky, Duncan).

Without A-rod, Abreu will slump. he takes all those pitchers, but now noone will give him anything to hit, because Posada or Matsui just doesn't strike the same kind of fear in opposing pitcher as Alex Rodriguez. Pitchers will just try to snag corners against him, instead of giving in because they fear walking him to bring up A-rod.

Speed must become a bigger part of their game. did you see the Indians. walk/single, steal second, bunt, sac fly was their formula.

Projected line-up for next year

Johnny Damon LF
Derek Jeter SS
Bobby Abreu RF
Hidek Matsui DH
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Cano 2B
Wilson Betemit 3B
Shelly Duncan/Doug Mientkiewicz 1B
Melky Cabrera CF
If Joe Torre stays this will definetly be the line-up. sombody else may lead off with Melky.

i would like to see Cano develop into their #3 hitter. If he can continue to hit .300 gain more patience, and 5-10 more HR, i would like to see him there. that almost definetly wont happen until at least 2009 though.

I want them to move either Damon or Matsui. they've definetly got to keep Posada. Molina is a great backup. they need to sign a backup infielder if they don't get Mike Lowell.

So what. Having the number one or two offense in the league the last 7 years has meant dick anyway.

It's about pitching, and thi team needs to get younger and better in that department. Hopefully we are on our way with Kennedy, Joba and Hughes. It would nice to be have a Johan to add to those three. :jerk:

IF the Yanks lose ARod, it is not their style to just move on and not try to replace his bat. They will make a splash withe a FA signing to boost the offense somehow.

Why do people keep acting like the Yankees can't give A-Rod 30 mill? Its not one or the other. The Yankees can extend him and re-structure his deal so that he gets whatever he wants and keep the Ranger's money.

And BC the offense has mattered plenty. They made the playoffs those years didn't they? If they had a regular or shitty offense to go along with the mediocre pitching they've had they wouldn't have done dick.
