Couple interesting names of guys who could be availabe:

1) Ben Broussard, Seattle. Solid player blocked by Sexon in Seattle. Very good glove who probably wouldn't cost a ton and I'd imagine hit about .270 20 75.

2) Nick Johnson, Washington. Not the prospect he once was his first tour but Dmitri Young was just signed to a two year extention. Obviously injury prone but Bowden has made enough deals where we could probably get him cheap and could fill in on that potential.

3) Scott Thorman, Atlanta. Big time power prospect blocked by Texiera. Unproven but only 25.

4) Frank Catalanotto, Texas. Local product, actually cousin of a guy I played football with. Always been a solid lefty bat, has played the position, with Texas always in need of pitching he might be availabe for a couple Clippard level prospects.

Eye Chart is the first baseman. Gold Glove caliber defense and will hit .280+ or better given full playing time...Why the hell would we need somebody else? Oh yeah, this is the Yankees...Go get me a big name, or else just change for the sake of change, somebody elses guy is always better...Eye Chart is not 'Sexy' enough to play 1st for the Yankees...yeah, gold glove caliber defense and a potential .290 or .300 hitter...Lets not give the guy a second thought...
We got alot of other f*cking problems besides first base.... holy f*ck.

Dude, the guy can't stay healthy.
Of course the bullpen is the problem area, but who can the Yanks get there?
Slim pickings, IMO 1B is an area they could improve without trading anyone valuable.

Andy Phillips....

If A-Rod stays, sure they could platoon Phillips & Eye chart or whomever.
But if Alex leaves, then they'll need a 1b & Mike Lowell @ 3b.

Phillips has zero power, isn't a beacon of health himself, hits awful on the road and isn't as good defensively as Mientkiewicz. He doesn't belong on a playoff major league roster.

of the guys moo listed which do you think is a "big name". I think you severly over estimate eyechart's bat. Betemit has shown a great glove at first and outproduces eyechart offensively at a cheaper cost. Phillips also plays an excellent first base, and can produce on par with eyechart or slightly less. With Betemit and Phillips here there is no need for Mientkiewicz. Throw Duncan in and you're set.

There isn't a huge difference between Eyechart and Phillips/Betemit defensively. The reputation is where Eyechart has the edge. Mientkiewicz is an average hitter...Phillips at worse is below average, at half the cost.

I want Duncan with at least 475 at bats, whether it's at first, DH or corner outfield positions. He's young, got tons of enthusiasm and fight and is just what the Yankees need. Not overpaid, tired old headlines sorry asses.......

If Abreu goes, Duncan probably will get a long look in RF.
I would like to see him play a lot more in 2008.

You can have him. You really think he's going to do that much damage? :please:

Stop it with Shelly Duncan. Yeah, the guys got alot of fire. I like that. For the same reason I like sitting in the right field bleachers. He would fit right in with the creatures, jumping up and down and forearm smashing and sh*t. And he uglier than most of them too. The best way for this guy to make a contribution to next years Yankees is to buy season tickets and lead the roll call.

As a baseball player, we have already had this guy. His name was Shane Spencer.

I like 1st base as a defense first position. Any real offense is a bonus for me IMO. Since Tino retired I have wanted to go with Travis Lee, Nick Johnson and now Eye Chart as the guy. The first 2 couldnt stay healthy. Eye Chart has the same issues...If it aint him, gimme somebody who can flash the leather. I dont wanna take a flyer on Shelly Dunkenstein as our guy. Betemit has never really played first and was not overly impressive with the stick in his time here except for a couple spots.. I would go with Phillips if those are my choices... Lets roll the dice with Menkekrewjeweski. If he stays healthy, like I said, he could hit .280 and gold glove caliber D...Whats not to like about that? Phillips can back him up. Betemit can be a bench guy too. Dunkenstein as an outfield bench. At least we keep him around. Yankees lose again in the first round next year and Dunkenstein can dismember all these f*cks and forearm smash their f*cking skulls in. We could even put it in his contract. He gets to forearm smash Jeter, Matsui, Giambi and Posada to death if we dont get to next years World Series....I like that.
