There are teams, believe it or not, that still value Kei Igawa, and the A's are among them. Oakland, under GM Billy Beane, never believed in spending big on a closer, and Street's salary is about to rise at a time when there are some health concerns about him. It is not inconceivable Beane might value the potential 350-plus innings/affordability that, say, an Igawa/Tyler Clippard deal could bring more than he does the 75-or-so innings of Street. Remember that the starting-pitching market stinks; the prices are going to be high anyway; Igawa's posting fee is paid, meaning he makes $4 million a year; and many clubs believe away from New York he will be what they thought he was in Japan: a fourth starter here.
I get what he's saying, and yes it makes sense, but I think he may have the wrong duo going to oakland. Iteresting idea, but what would it take to get it done?

The previous closers Beane is alluding to are Kenny Rogers(traded for Izzy), Izzy (traded for Kotch), and Kotch (traded for Foulke). Something like Igawa and Cox or Marquez maybe.

I'd be all for it but I don't see it happening.

I think he's 100% right about Beane shopping Street, but I think he's 100% wrong about Igawa Clippard being enough. I think Street would be a very solid 8th inning guy that the Yankees could realistically trade for without giving up the farm.

just realized my memory was off. Izzy was let go for free agency and Hinske was traded for Kotch.

Would be a quality guy to go after and I think we have alot of B level pitching prospects where a guy like Igawa and a couple of them would be a smart move.

Street would be a solid addition to the pen if we can get him for Igawa and another lesser prospect.

And if he can stay healthy. He was my fantasy team closer this year and he f*cked me.
