A-Rod contingency plans

In the order of who I'd go after:

1) Garret Atkins, Colorado. Hard to believe he'd be availabe with the Rockies going as far as they have but Ian Stewart is a super prospect at 3rd and they might be willing to move Atkins in the right deal. Melkey and prospects like a Horne and Alberton Gonzalez might get it done.

2) Mike Lowell, Boston. Solid pro, good gap hitter, really good in the field. I'm hesitant on him because I could see him coming here and hitting .240 but he could be a Scotty B. player for us.

3) Joe Crede, Chicago. Rumors are he might be non-tendered. Still fairly young at 29, had a good year last year hitting .289 with 30 homers and 95 RBI's but hurt this season. Career averages are .259, 25 89. Could be in line for a reasonable deal and if he could hit .265-.270 with 20-25 dingers would be a solid #6 hitter.

Other potential options: trading for Tejada and moving him over, signing a defensive minded SS like Cesar Izturis and moving Jeter over which would never happen but might be a good move.

Atkins would cost a ton and even with that Humidor I don't trust his above average at best numbers.

Lowell would give Boston our number 1 pick and a supplemental pick(potential Joba and Kennedy)

Joe Crede sucked even when he was good and I'm really tired of hearing his name in the same sentance as Alex Rodriguez's

My contingency plan for A-Rod is lots and lots of alcohol.

Your backup plan to A Rod should be Miquel Cabrea, he just finished his 5th year of MLB service, isn't he now eligible for free agency?

Its 6 years, but I've heard he isn't a FA until after 09. Same with Willis. Something about the first season not being long enough.

Yeah I just realized that, that blows. And what also blows is that first year wasn't enough service time, so after 2009 would be the correct answer. <_<
