I don't know how the rest of you guys feel about this, but I DON'T want him as my manager. He's the smartest guy in the room, sure is, and he'll tell you about it as well. Great manager, don't get me wrong. Not a good guy from what a here though. Does he have a great track record??? Of course. Won a division with a scrappy White Sox team in the mid 80's. Won 3 pennants with the A's and one championship. Two Pennants with the Cardinals and one Championship.

Here is the bottom line, if I wanted a manager with a great track record I would keep Joe f*cking Torre. Who has a better track record then Joe Torre as far as managers go? I love Joe, I'm going to miss him, I grew up as a Yankee fan and never saw a championship till Torre came here, now I've seen 4!!!! Please don't give me LaRussa, you gotta go with Girardi, Mattingly or dare I say Bobby V.

Not for nothing. Tony would be a good replacement. Do you really think George would let Joe Torre go? He put together a great come back towards the end of the season. I'm a Mets fan. I don't think George would be that rash.

I want nothing to do with LaRussa, Mattingly or anybody else. There's only two guys I wouldn't mind. Joe Girardi, my number one choice, or maybe Bobby V. If it's not one of those two, I hate to say it, but I'd stick with Joke Torre.

Its going to be somebody that will fit the direction the team is going in. It will be a person who is supportive of the Nardi Contreras/Dave Eiland/David Oppenheimer way of developing young pitching. It will be somebody who has a track record of dealing with young players, and also will have the respect of the veterans. If Girardi didn't play with some of these guys he'd be a sure thing(like he should be).

Girardi or Bobby V, those are the only two guys I really want.

Tony LaRussa is a great manager, don't get me wrong. Not the guy for this job though.

And yes, I think Joe is finally going to fire Torre. He's been itching to do it for years but has been talked out of it in the past. Not this time, Joe lasted 12 years under the Boss, that is a miracle in it's own right.

Bobby V is noted as one of the brightest baseball minds and one of the best in-game managers. He also can handle New York, won a Pennant here and almost brought the Shmets all the way back from a 3-0 defecit to the Braves in '99. He is great with young players as well, and that's what you have here on this team. And although it's another planet, he has won a championship over there in Japan. Great baseball man, no question about that. I think he's basically Tony LaRussa with less talent given to him his whole career and a better handler of the media then LaRussa is and that's important in New York.

I guess you're the only one on the western hemisphere that thinks this way.

Booby V?? :puke: This is coming from a Mets fan. Your best bet is Joe G or Tony. Bobby V use to make decisions that would leave us Mets fans bewildered. You don't want Bobby V.

The best choice is Girardi. The veterans connect with him and he's great at developing young players. Plus he's a catcher and has displayed good in game decision making. He can handle NY too. Get him signed pronto!

I have read that he and Bobby V are the favorites of Cashman while George wants Donnie.

Donnie-Popup was/is and always will be my favorite player. That's said, at this point, Girardi is infinitely more qualified to be manager. I want Mattingly as hitting coach and while yer at it, make Eiland the pitching coach. Also keep Pena and Bowa. :peace:

Kevin Long should remain hitting coach.

For what it's worth, the offense wasn't exactly stellar in the playoffs in 05 or 06 either...

You don't dump the batting coach when the team hits for the highest batting average since 1935 or something.

As a fan I want Mattingly as manager but I think Giradi is the right man for the job. The team is going young and Giradi led a team of almost exclusively rookies to a solid season. Although with that said I'd like to know more in depth the details of why he was fired.

OK, so keep Mattingly as bench coach. I like the guy. Just don't want him to be manager at this time.

Girardi was fired because when the owner was heckling the umps, he told him that his conduct wasn't helping matters! I love how he had the guts to stand up to his boss for the good of the team.

This guy's no tea sipper!
VC all the way.
