Ohlendorf will be playing in the Arizona Fall League. The reason is for him to learn a splitter according to Nardi Contrares. Hopefully this gives him the outpitch he needs to compliment his hard sinker/breaking ball combo.

One guy whos name we will all know(hopefully in a good way) next year is Alan Horne. He has #2 starter/closer potential. Was extreemly raw when drafted, but finally had his breakout season. If the rotation ends up being Hughes, Chamberlain, Pettitte, Wang, Kennedy and does not change, I could see Horne being this years Joba(with a different degree of success obviously).

I think I like Posada more than most, especially around here, but I wouldn't be destroyed if the Yankees went with Molina and got an offensive minded backup. Everyone (haters included) will miss Jorge's bat when its gone, but with a young, developing staff and otherwise potent offense, I think there has to be serious thought to going defense first with the catcher position.

I'm still torn on Abreu.

Vizcaino has no chance in comming back if he is a type A, whcih is very possible. If he's a type B I still let him walk. Really I just don't see him back.

Alex stays

Mo stays

Joba starts

Trade Moose and Giambi if possible.

DH Matsui if possible

Torn on Damon

Girrardi and Eiland are the only coaching replacements I'm really into.

I'm torn on Abreu as well, he had a great 2nd half though and hit okay this postseason. Damon I like, he's the type who you can count on to get a big hit in October, and that's what I like about him. He makes this lineup go and has played a very good CF. I love Melky, but the one thing I worry about him is his bat. Is he going to hit enough??? CF isn't an offensive position, but you still want something from him. I just have questions about his bat. I love Torii Hunter, and he is the one guy I wouldn't mind seeing brought in. He's going to be a bottom of the order guy here anyway.

My first reaction was to get rid of Posada, but how do you replace him? Let him stay and maybe let him work a lot at 1B this spring so he can get more ABs there.

Mo has to stay.

Moose, Giambi, Farnsworth MUST go.

I'll take Aaron Rowand ova Tori Hunter. He's younger, better defensively, equivalent offense and will come cheaper. If we can't sign him, then get me Hunter as a fall back. ;)

If we bring in a new CF, let Abreu walk and get the draft pics. Melky would be fine in right with that canon and Damon has proven adequate in LF. Duncan can spell them on occasion. :peace:

Surprisingly, I like Eye-Chart at first. Can't beat that defense and he can hit a little. Duncan can fill in here a bit too.

I'd definitely bring back Arod if possible, as well as Posada and Pettite. Say what you want about Posada, but his offense is very good for a catcher and makes up for our below league average offense at 1st. I very much like Molina as the backup. DH Matsui.

Damon
Jeter
Rowand
Arod
Posada
Cano
Matsui
Eye-Chart
Cabrera

Resign MO on a 2yr contract. He deserves to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium. Then sign the best available free agent reliever to fill Joba's setup role in the pen. Perhaps Horne can come in and be an effective 7th inning option. We also have Vizciano, Olendorf, Sanchez, Veras for the pen. Use Moose as a long man in the pen. He seems decent in that role. He can also be the emergency spot starter.

Mo
Top Free agent reliever
Horne
Vizciano
The Big OH
Sanchez
Veras
Moose (I guess we have to keep Igawa in AAA as insurance...)

Rotation set with
Hughes
Pettite (if he comes back)
Joba
Wang
Kennedy

Girardi as manager, bring back ZIMMER as Bench coach ( ! ), Mattingly as hitting coach and Eiland as pitching coach. Also retain Pena and Bowa.

Trade/release Giamboo, Villone and Farnsworth.

Free Agent relievers include...

Affeldt: Horrible strikeout to walk ratio, everything about him screams lucky NL season, has always had control problems. That said he was in colorado this past year and he usually controls lefties pretty well. Overall, no thanks.

Fransisco Cordero: Had a sick year. Won't be a set up man.

Linebrink: Possible type A. Not even close to worth it.

Gagne: Type A. I wouldn't.

Kerry Wood: Honestly have no idea what type of pitcher he is now. Never healthy anyway. Would be interesting on a minor league contract.

Viscaino: If he's a type A you have to let him walk. Type B you probably should too.

the rest suck unless I missed something.

Honestly, the pool is very shallow this off season. There isn't much to go after. At least we have Pussvano to look forward to in the spring. If he can pitch its like bringing in the most expensive FA per games actually played ever! I don't want any of the names mentioned above in Yankee Pinstripes. The ride is over...put as many of the kids to work as possible.

In house relief options.

Ohlendorf

Veres

Steven White: Very Proctorish.

Alan Horne: Potential to be AJ Burnett as a starter or Tom Gordon as a reliever. Most realistic comp I've heared is Brian Banister with more velocity.

Chase Wright: Sucks, but seemed to handle lefties decently in the minors.

Kevin Whelan: Strikeout machine with two out pitches and a hard fastball. Rick Vaughn like control.

Jeff Marquez: Good hard sinker that could gain velocity in the pen, good changeup. Very good control.

Daniel McCutchen: good stuff(better from the pen), good control, good pitchability, doesn't get much attention at all for some reason.

David Robertson: Highly touted college closer, INSANE minor league numbers, flew through three levels this season.

Scott Patterson: 28, Indy leaguer, has owned the minors, Ks 11+ and walks 2- per 9. supposedly throws 97

Ramirez

Steven Jackson: not likely. interesting arm none the less. Pitching in the AFL if I'm not mistaken.

Pavano can't even start rehabbing until the end of the year. He'll never pitch for the Yankees again.

Going with youth wouldn't be throwing in the towell. Most of the dominant bullpens in recent years have been homegrown. Its just a smart way to do things.

Humberto had Tommy John, but will be ready to go for spring training. Unfortunately as we've all seen the second year back from Tommy John is usually when you start to see the real pitcher.

Melancon had Tommy John too, shortly after Humberto. Could be the best of the lot reliever wise once he's healthy.

Cox had shoulder surgery, but not Tommy John, if it doesn't cost him velocity(he can't afford to lose any) he should be the closest to normal for 08.
