I want to piss down the f*cking gullet of whomever was responsible for not giving this guy a chance here, especially when their alternative has been Andy Phillips, Doug Mientkiewicz, and Josh Phelps. Disgraceful trio to be giving legit chances to win the first base job on a supposed contending ball club. |

Exactly!!! I mean Pena isn't the end all be all, but he has some nice pop and a slick glove. He's a better option then the names you mentioned that we have been trotting out there! Ridiculous! |

Yeah, I'm not saying Carlos Pena is a superstar, but the fact is HE HAS A CHANCE TO BE A SUPERSTAR. There's some serious promise there for someone we'd have for nothing, batting 7th or 8th with no pressure. And the part that really steams me is what you said about the glove. It'd be one thing if he was an absolute sh*t glove, although Phelps was one himself, because it'd be a reason not to give him a shot. There was no reason not to give a potential 40 HR, .400 OBP, Gold Glove caliber 1B a chance. Even if he fizzles out for TB this year, he already would have given them more than we'll get all year. |

No doubt man, I was saying this all last year!!! It's not like he's a potential bat with a butcher glove like Phelps, he can field his spot. Unbelievable we let Andy Phillips keep Pena from getting up here last year! Then this year we keep Andy Phillips down for Stone Hands PHelps? Makes no f*cking sense and is one reason why I can't f*cking stand Cashman. |

And what's shitty is 1B is such an easy spot to fill. Teams usually have 1B down on the farm being blocked, since they already have a 1B on the big league level. I'd bet if a team would have tried, Ryan Howard could have been had back when Thome was long-termed and was hitting. How hard is it to go after a team's 1B prospect. It's pathetic what this team has settled on |

Pena will be sh*t again by the end of the year. The Red Sox cut him too. |

That's what gets me. Pena was never sh*t. He strikes out too much, but he's been a top notch defender and he works a ton of pitches with really good power and a quick bat. He has Mark Bellhorn-syndrome, in that he takes too many pitches, putting himself in bad counts and taking Strike 3s, but he has always looked like he had an idea at the plate. When I used to play fantasy, I used to keep my eye on him, because he always stuck out as an underachiever that could break out at anything. What he's doing this year makes sense. His lefty splits are absolutely horrid, but the guy still has an OPS over 1.000 for the year. Back when he was hitting .240s in Detroit, he still had good secondary stats considering his AVG was so poor. |

The thing about Pena is he's a second half player as well. I'm amazed the Tigers actually cut him after 05. He was .286 15 30 after the All-Star break. They really liked Chris Shelton though. I'm pretty sure Detroit would rather Pena than Sean Casey. |
