How about we wait until Phillips isn't hitting really good and playing great D to call him useless. It probably won't take long, but he'll equal Hillenbrand's production for the year in about 3 more games the way he's hitting.

2 HRs for Carlos Pena this series. Am I the only one that thinks this guy is going to be a valuable major league 1B from now on? MM seems to not have a doubt in the world Pena is going to become a releasable player again. I don't think he was releasable to begin with back in Detroit.

I liked him more than most when he was with the tigers. Even when he is going bad he is productive because he draws walks and hits for power. Now we see that when he's going good he's an all star calliber player.

Our biggest problem this year has been against lefties and Pena is hitting .200 against them. This guy is having a super year and maybe it will last for the rest of his career, but I wouldn't make book on it.

YB's ass pimple is better than Foolups.

You make it sound so matter of factly that Pena is a fluke. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something with this guy. Perhaps I am. I can't even fathom why Detroit released him, let alone him going through two teams before landing somewhere for regular work. It's not like he ever peaked or showed he was never going to improve. He was always a hard out for a guy hitting .240, worked a ton of pitches, and still put up some good pop and pretty good splits seasons in Detroit.

I think a lot of people tend to group all bad players together without thinking about how bad some of them are. This is how Bubba Crosby stayed in the league, because of the whole "well he sucks, but he's just the 25th man" attittude. I don't think many people understand how bad a player Shea Hillenbran has been the past year plus. I know this is going to turn into me allegedly thinking Andy Phillips is a great player, but I'm simply trying to show people how terrrible a player Shea Hillenbrand has been since so many are so obviously unaware.
