He's gone after this year no doubt about it. The only thing I wish is that he'd get the proper firing that he deserves during this season. His contract runs out after the year, and I fear he'll "retire" rather than get his just firing like a man. Stottlemyre got out of here without being properly retired, I fear Torre's next.

They haven't quit, but they do need someone to light a fire under their ass.

I hate how they'll score 11 runs when Igawa gives up 16, but when we actually get decent pitching from unlikely decent pitchers they do nothing. Say what you will about Sheffield, but atleast play like this would piss him off. I thought Cano was just a slow starter, but this is getting rediculous.

Come on dude - that's harsh.

Making the playoffs every year since he's been here, I forget how many division titles, 6 pennants, and 4 rings.

His number will be retired, and rightly so. Along with a trip to Cooperstown.

Yeah - I know - the money, but come on.

Whatever you think of his managing in 2007, the end of his Yankee tenure should be handled with all the class and dignity possible. Along with a meaningful position of influence with the organization for as long as he desires.

Come to think of it, the best possible successor after Steinbrenner's death would be Joe. I'd love to see George leave him with some sort of ownership %, and more importantly control of the organization.

Joe Torre is one of the biggest reasons the Yankees are "The Yankees" again.

Although he'd probably rather go back into broadcasting.

That's why I figure he'd go with broadcasting, because he can pretty much make his scheudle as light as he wants.

I couldn't see him walking away from the game altogether though. It's in his blood.

I was covering a college game today for the local newspaper and it was more fun to watch that than it was watching the Yankees last night. :no1:
