I have to say this, since I've noticed it for awhile, but never posted it. Whenever the Yankee players are dead to rights at the plate, they never aggressively go into home plate, either sliding or square their shoulders up to jar the ball loose. Not much on that Damon play, although he was clearly going in softly with no intention of kicking or hitting, but the rest of the team does it too, in particular Giambi. He's been in plays where he knows he's going to be tagged out by the catcher and he just jogs in softly to be tagged out. Now I know my violence advocacy at times has no basis in logic. But the rules of baseball and tradition MAKE VIOLENCE AT HOMEPLATE LEGAL!!! You're fighting for a run with that catcher. Be prepared to knock him silly. God, it pisses me off how this team can be so soft.

Joe Torre.

To a degree, but that sh*t at the plate is heat of the moment. Your instincts should be taken over, not what Torre wants them to do or not. And pretty much 100 percent of the time, they choose to ballerina dance as they get tagged without a fight. That's just softness and lack of killer instinct.

A guy playing for his major league career though. Not a pampered millionaire. And I'm sure he was reprimanded.

Could we afford to lose Jorge on a cheap shot (if by chance he ever blocked the plate)?
