Plus who? Hughes? I'd love it, but no way they're that dumb. Maybe Tabata and Melky, but not just Melky. |

Melky is worth as much as the lint that collects in my bellybutton. |

Thats not the point. Vin said "Maybe Tabata and Melky". If Sabean offered Lowry for Tabata Cashman would laugh at him. I'm not dissagreeing with what you are saying, but I think the assumption is Melky would start and Dave Roberts would become the 4th OFer. I'm not too high on Melky, but what he did last year as a 21 year old is actually pretty rare. Organizations that put more stock into statistics would value him more than most. The Giants also have Lincecum ready to start, which makes Lowry and Morris expendable. |

Yeah, thats what I said. He isn't going anywhere for an average pitcher. When Miguel Cabrera was coming up would the Marlins have dealt him for Odalis Perez? |

I would certainly consider Lowry for Cabrera and not be mad either way. Lowry is a young left-hander with very good stuff. He could be in our rotation for awhile. He can also be very hittable at times, and his velocity was dipping last year. But the question is whether we think Cabrera has enough value to us to pass up a 26 year old lefty with potential number 2,3 value. It's basically potential vs potential trade. |

Melky is a 4th OF, he'll never be much more then that. |

I think most would obviously say yes. I'm like you, I'd do it in a second, but I don't care either way. Now that Lowry doesn't fit into the 5 man rotation in a month it might be a better idea to keep melky as the 4th OFer and wait until another Mike Gonzalez trade comes along. |

It kind of works for both teams, if San Fran has a cluttered rotation. Lowry hasn't taken that next step forward since a few years ago when he was looking like a guy they'd team with Cain to be their top guys for years. Plus, with how shitty our pitching is, how could we scoff at a young left-handed pitcher with some good potential. At least he has the potential, unlike Igawa. |

Lowry and his 89 mph fastball is a poor mans Tom Glavine. Lowry would be eaten alive in the AL East. I can’t see that trade helping either side. The Giants need better than Melky and the Yankees need better than Lowry (even with Clemens). |

Lowry's 89 MPH fastball has eaten him up in the NL as well. His drop in velocity is what has stunted his development and continued improvement. |

I'd pull the trigger and not look back. Any time you can get a 26 year old lefty with potential and the cost isnt' ridiculous you have to go for it with baseball today. |
