If I didn't have finals next week I would have been in Vegas this weekend for that fight. |

In order to get back to take my Monday morning final I would have had to leave early Sunday morning. When I'm in Vegas I go to sleep in the morning. |

This is billed as the fight to "Save Boxing." MMA/UFC has taken a lot of fans and been running with the momentum. A battle like this is one for the ages. Even I am getting my boxing juices flowing for this one. I really think Mayweather will totally outclass De La Hoya tonight. That guy has taken heat and he deserves it. I watched his last fight with Baldomir, and he coasted to a decision without trying, just using his ungodly speed to stick and move with jabs. If he does that again, he'll win, but he'll jade a lot of people from boxing. I get the feeling he's going to end this fight in style by knocking De La Hoya cold. I always liked De La Hoya though, so him getting the upset would be nice for boxing as well, and a lot of people, including Teddy Atlas, are calling the upset. It's basically a legacy vs legacy fight. A lot at stake. Mayweather better show some appreciation for the sport and not do that coasting to a decision sh*t. Official prediction- Mayweather TKO 6th round |

De La Hoya got screwed of a decision victory. Good for him though. He showed a lot of heart. Considering his age and time off, going against top caliber opponents, and deserving a win over Floyd Mayweather, he boosted his career even in defeat. |

Boxing sucks. It seems every big fight comes down to a decision, I hate that sh*t. I want to see knockouts. |

That's why I love MMA. Boxing is two guys limited to throwing punches with 12 oz, or is 16 oz, gloves. It's more of who's more skilled than who's the better fighter, like MMA is. One good punch on the jaw, you're out |

Nobody under 35 watches boxing. It's your grandfather's sport. Like horse racing. |

LOL. While I agree with horse racing, I do think there's something special about boxing when it's going well. I get goosebumps thinking of how it must have been to see Ali-Frazier, Floyd Patterson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and legends and legendary bouts of the past. Back in the day when guys fought to win and not just to get a paycheck and not to lose(Mayweather did it again. I guess he'll never gain any killer instinct). The last decade or two, really since the early part of the 90s, when Evander Holyfield was in his prime, boxing has had nothing special. Lennox Lewis was just way too good going against inferior opponents(He could have boxed and beaten Tyson one-armed) and nobody has really been anything special in the lower classes. Hopefully boxing will have a rise again, but for now, it's stagnant. There's just really no depth, so quality fights and fighters haven't been there. Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti got major props for their fights because they were so crazy and competitive, but both of those guys weren't much special. It was the competitiveness and toughness that made their bouts stick out, since there hasn't been much of that in recent times. |
