Word around the campfire is that he might need TJ surgery. He's going to Alabama to see Dr. Andrews.

That man makes me want to vomit.

Cashman should have unloaded Pavano earlier this spring when he had the chance. Instead he listened to eternal sunshiner MM and the happy bunch at shady acres, bought into the blue sky and held onto him. :pullhair:

Cashman's been on a roll of late. Vizcaino and Igawa are other phenomenal moves he's made. This is GM of the year type stuff.

Doesn't excuse the asinine and possibly season-damaging moves Cashman made this offseason.

Yes. Because moves like those two are bound to happen.

He should've let George can Torre. You don't bring in a strength and conditioning coach who has been out of baseball for 10 years, and you sure as hell don't spend $46 mil on a piece of sh*t who couldn't even cut it in AAA as a reactionary move. Cashman gets no breaks. He has tons of money to work with and threw some around irresponsibly this offseason and made some terrible judgement calls.

He also made some really good calls with and without big money.

When you bring in a 5th starter once and a while one is going to suck. I wish I knew the exact luxury tax figures so I knew how much of that 46 should be ignored.

Cash's stregnths have been trades, drafting, and accumulating talent for the future and future trades. He has to be kept until atleast the trade deadline so he has a chance to work with these chips. If he fails to be agressive with the second teir prospects, if he proves to be trigger shy on the trade front despite the Yankees' needs, then by all means he should be fired.

And Pavano? On this matter, Cashman exhales long and slow. There's certainly no defending the pitcher's Yankee resume, which is littered with injuries and non-performance. The GM knows he's the only member of the organization still trying to rationalize signing Pavano, when just about everyone else has written him off as the worst mistake in a decade. For now, all Cashman will say is, "We're going to hold off any announcement until he's examined [by Dr. Frank Jobe] in California."

Cashman wouldn't comment on clubhouse speculation that an examination last week by Dr. James Andrews found no tear in Pavano's elbow ligaments. Nor is the GM touching an equally disturbing belief, held by some Yankees, that Pavano wants surgery regardless of the doctors' diagnoses.

With Clemens, Hughes, DeSalvo and Rasner in town, Pavano can spend the rest of his life on the DL for all I care. Him being injured means he can't take up a roster spot.

I'm done with giving this guy the benefit of the doubt, this is the final straw if true. I mean come on, what is this guys deal? If nothing is wrong, go out there gut it up and try to f*cking pitch. If they can't find nothing wrong it must all be in his head. He still hasn't gotten over Alyssa.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't accuse anybody of WANTING to undergo major surgery, but you're right, Pavano has lost the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's a very real possibility that he wants the surgery regardless of whether or not he needs it, just so he doesn't have to keep coming up with new reasons not to pitch.

May 12 - NY Post

Quote:

May 12, 2007 -- SEATTLE - If Carl Pavano avoids Tommy John surgery it will be a huge surprise. However, the "American Idle" isn't being prepped for the operation that will likely end his Yankees career.

Though doctors James Andrews, David Altchek and Lewis Yocum have in one form or another recommended Pavano undergo the procedure, the club is waiting to get their recommendations in writing.

"We will have the written reports from the doctors and probably meet with Carl when the team gets off the road trip," GM Brian Cashman said.

It's expected that Pavano will be on his way to surgery by Friday.

The delay could be the Yankees making sure they have documents that could support and insurance claim on Pavano's $40 million, four-year deal. When he undergoes the surgery Pavano is expected to be out for 12 to 18 months.

I didn't think they could get this smit covered anymore.

If they are going to recover a decent portion of his 07-08 money, then I'd be a tiny bit happier about this whole fu<ked situation.

Isn't every MLB player covered by insurance for injuries. Just some players have like a higher rate and stuff. I thought I heard that when Darren Dreifort went down, and how the Dodgers were in risk of losing their insurance since insurance was paying so much for him and Kevin Brown
