***** please. Him and his 3.70 ERA, 15/11 K:BB ratio in the National League in a big-ass ballpark can go f*ck himself. And as if Barry Zito would be the one to provide toughness. |

We've got a better left-handed pitcher, named Andy Pettitte. Unfortunately, Joe Torre doesn't trust him enough to finish the 7th inning Friday night. |

Last I checked a team needs 5 starters.....not 1. He's better than the other 4 , who have shown nothing, hands down. He had 2 horrific starts to open the season...otherwise his era would be much better. |

and other than the two good starts he's been horrific. that argument goes both ways. We play in the AL East. Zito gets crushed here. Wang, Pettitte, and Mussina are all better. Clemens if aquired will be better. Hughes by next year if not this year will be better. The guy simply isn't all that good and he got a Mike Hampton contract. |

I agree on the money. I don't believe that Wang or Moose at this stage of his career is better |

So are a lot of people. A 5.00 era was good for 17 wins on this team last season. |

You can't win 17 games in 3 starts. Rasner and Pavano(who I want to pee on... and not in the good way) both have sub 5 era's. |

story of his life. right now zito has one good pitch, Colter Bean's velocity, poor control, bad command, and only...ONLY beats poor hitting teams. Right now. |

I'm saying that based on last season - which is the only way you can evaluate Wang vs. Zito - Wang was better. Based on his career and last season, Mussina is better than Zito. Mind you, I'm not that high on either of them. I expect both Wang and Mussina to win 14-17 games and have ERAs over 4. But Zito isn't better than that. He hasn't been better than that in 4 years. You know his ERA the last 3 seasons is 4.05? Wow. And you wanted the Yanks to spend $126M for that? And keep in mind that he put up those numbers in Oakland where (1) it's close to home for him (2) there's very little pressure as the die hard fans there are laidback, and the fairweather fans are busy gangbanging (3) where he was comfortable and accustomed to being (4) the clubhouse and atmosphere was loose as Carl Pavano's pussy (5) where the ballpark was f*cking deep and had a shitload of foul territory. You translate that sh*t to New York, to the Yankees, to the AL East (where, as Homie pointed out, he's struggled against those offenses) and there's a good chance he'd have crumbled. But that's conjecture. What's more solid (incontrovertible) is the fact that based on track record, you could've expected his ERA to be raised half a run if he'd come here. So that's $126M for 16 wins and a 4.50 ERA? Might as well have kept Randy Johnson at $16M per. |

Very solid valid argument. I'd still like to take my chances...screw the money. If Zito pitched to a 4.50 and won 17...not a soul here would bitch. Look what Pavano makes for wearing a uniform and being a fu--up |

For that kind of money, he had better win 22 and have a 3.25 ERA |
