My only pick would be to get Charlie out of Notre Dame.....If he would come it would seem like the right guy, from the system, great pedigree, Super Bowls, Quartebacks etc.... Now if we cannot get him I have no idea what names will come up, I would have to leave that to the more knowledgeable guys around here to throw some names around... I know a couple years ago Romeo was the hot guy, and would have the support of the Mara family....But is the tarnish off the trophy with him? And is he gonna lose his job? ?? |

That guy gets the SuperBalls of the year award.... Fatcessa said it best... You would never be able to pull off all of those plays succesfully in your own backyard.... The fact that guy had nuts big enough to try all that sh*t on that stage, then go for the fecking throat when all he needed was an extra point to go to the next overtime, and then pull a fecking Statue of Liberty play out of his asshole in that spot is just unreal...       |

I'm not that big on Weiss coming here. I don't look at just success and numbers, but how they're attained. That's why I gave a sh*t about the Giants offensive ranks last year. Weiss, from what I've seen of Notre Dame, runs a variation of the WCO not too dissimilar to the one the Giants run now. Difference is, his players have executed it better (and it's college). It helps when you don't have a roster full of f*ck-ups. But if he came here, he'd have a roster full of f*ck-ups who will have failed under a similar system. I wouldn't expect him to come here and suddenly work magic. The offense he ran for Brady from 2001-2002 was pass-happy but conservative and cautious, which is what I think the Giants need, but it's different personnel. Eli isn't as accurate (or as anything) as Brady and the Giants don't have the route runners who can get quick separation underneath. The talent in this group is more similar to Samardzija-Stovall-McKnight, which is why I'd think he try to run the ND style offense here. He'd either have to adjust his style or bring in personnel that fits it. And that'll take time, even if the Giants cap room would allow it. So, I think he'd be an upgrade - because he's smarter than Coughlin - and I wouldn't be against it, but I'm not gung-ho like some fans. And that's aside from the fact that I still don't think Coughlin is getting fired. You guys know I care more about X's & O's than the motivational martinet foot-in-ass coaching. Because you can get guys fired up and "disciplined," but it doesn't mean a damn thing if the other coach is outsmarting you or you can't make quick adjustments. Bellichick isn't an emotional coach. Hell, I don't even know if Bellichick actually interacts with the team. Means not a f*cking thing when he's drawing up a gameplan that the other team isn't prepared to handle. That's why I'd take a Mike Shanahan 50x over a Bill Parcells. That said - I'm thinking Cam Cameron, the Chargers offensive coordinator. I love that passing offense they ran for Brees, and now Rivers. Work the underneath with safe throws, attack the middle of the field and extend to the intermediate area. Granted, I think Brees and Rivers are much more accurate and better intermediate throwers than Manning, but I'd want some of that style here. _____________________________________ Oh sh*t! Here's something that's gonna make you jealous. I was just looking at the Chargers and decided to look up Marcus McNeil's numbers. I know he got good reviews, but I wanted to see the stats of this rookie left tackle. In 16 games (16 starts), he's given up just 5 sacks. As a run blocker, the Chargers averaged 6.07 yards per carry running off left tackle, which ranks #1 in the NFL. Running directly behind him, they averaged 5.02 YPC, good for 4th in the league. I know those rushing numbers are padded by the fact that Tomlinson is Tomlinson, but sh*t, he must've been doing something right. Just to compare - D'Brickashaw gave up 10 sacks and his run numbers were 2.78/4.64, good for 29th and 11th, respectively. Walter Jones, the game's best pass-blocker, had the worst season of his career, giving up 10 ½ sacks. Petitgout gave up 4 ½ in 9 games. McNeil was the 50th pick in the draft. He was a projected late-1st rounder but he showed up at the Combine overweight and looked bad in his workouts. They got a damn steal right there. If not for Tarik Glenn, Ogden and Willie Anderson giving up fewer sacks than him, he'd have been a for-sure Pro Bowler. You could still make the argument for him. Damn. The Giants, after trading down to #32, could've down from there into the 2nd round and maybe picked up an extra 3rd. I'd have been happy with Jonathan Scott, now I'm seeing what this guy has done. |

Ken Whisenhunt (44), the Steelers o-coordinator. I don't like all the running plays (I prefer passing offenses), but I like what they do when they do throw it. They're creative, design a lot of safe plays and use a lot of chicanery. I don't think any offense runs more trick plays than the Steelers. Which shows that Whisenhunt is kind of a hybrid. Smashmouth usually stays smashmouth. "Brrrr! We're not gonna run no dang tricky-dicky plays. That's for sissies! We're gonna pound 'em and pound 'em some more!" Here's a guy who will run the ball 41 times in a game and then break out a double-reverse and have the ex-quarterback wide receiver throw a pass to the ex-quarterback wide receiver. And what was that play they ran against the Giants in 2004? It was like a direct snap to the FB, who made a shovel pass on a middle screen to the RB. I think it was Verron Hayes who took it like 30 yards for a TD. Bob Bratkowski (51), the Bengals offensive coordinator. He doesn't get a lot of attention and his name is rarely mentioned, but look at that offense. He's been there since 2001 so I assume he had a part in laying the foundation of that offense. The drafting of Chad Johnson (2nd round), Housmanzadeh (7th round), Levi Jones, Carson Palmer, Eric Steinbach (2nd round), Chris Henry (3rd round). And since Marvin Lewis is a defensive specialist - who has to spend his off time scanning the police blotter - that offense is probably Bratkowski's. Problem there is that the Bengals offense isn't that complex. It's more vertical than I like and what they get accomplished has a lot to do with them just having more firepower and talent than the defense. I would look over some defensive coordinators, but I think this team is built more toward offense. And I like offense. |

We still need a quarterback that can throw the ball. And we're not winning sh*t unless we get a real defense. |

Charlie may not want to leave ND bro.... Right now he is a God in South Bend....Huge contract....Just built a new house for him and his family...The number 1 recruit in the country coming in ( Claussen ) and a top 3 recruiting class.....2 consecutive BCS bowls and the program is flush with money...The guy has already earned alot of goodwill under the golden dome.... The Giants could roll up in a Brinks truck and I say the odds are pretty good he turns them down.... |

Strider I know you know your sh*t, but you have given me 3 names I have never heard of....They may be good up-n-comers, but I dont see the Giants giving this job to an untested coordinator who would be a first time head coach and has no ties to the orginization....It aint happenin... |

I agree. They gave him a 10-year contract. And in college, if you're a smart coach with a nice rèsumè heading a big-time team, you can bring in a bunch of the top recruits and keep the program thriving. He'd have to f*ck the f*ck up, be an absolute failure and squander everything he's got going for him in order to lose that job. He's got job security, it's his alma mater and he's got the whole area on his dick. Why leave that to come coach for this disgusting team full of underachievers and losers to risk tarnishing his record and losing the job after 3-4 seasons? In the NFL, he won 3 Super Bowls as a coordinator - and Bellichick was a defensive guy so Charlie ran the offense - and gets credit for developing the new Joe Montana. Got that locked. So there probably isn't that strong urge to come back and prove anything. He can stay in South Bend and enjoy having full control and the constant blowjob. |

I know. The Giants have been reluctant to take chances, aren't progressive and have that bullshit "keep it in the family" mantra stuck in their heads. But I can't speculate on which head coaches will be fired and I haven't followed college football enough to say who I'd want from those ranks. An NFL coordinator, especially when his speciality isn't the head coach's, the evidence is more tangible. Also, it's not a deep crop. And the new trend has kinda been the young coach. Mangini was the defensive coordinator for one year in New England and the Jets hired him. So far so good. Sean Payton (where the f*ck was that thick playbook with the Giants?) has done well. Lovie Smith went to the Bears after being the Rams defensive coordinator. You've never heard of Whisenhunt? |
