Broncos' Williams killed Monday morning
Associated Press

DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver early Monday morning, police said.

Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. Mountain Time from the scene of the shooting and told him three people had been shot and that Williams had been killed.

Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said that a little after 2 a.m., the white Hummer limousine that Williams and two others were traveling in was sprayed with bullets from a vehicle that came up along its side. All three people in the limousine were hit. They were taken to area hospitals, where Williams was pronounced dead. The other victims, a male and a female, were not identified. Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

Williams, a second-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Oklahoma State, started nine games as a rookie due to injuries. This season, he took over as the starter for Lenny Walls alongside Champ Bailey, and was second on the team with four interceptions and tied for third with 86 tackles.

On Sunday against the 49ers, he had a sack, a forced fumble, and led the team with seven sacks.

Jackson said police were searching for the suspects and interviewing witnesses.

Damn this sucks, way too young to go, and the weirdest part is that he is on my fantasy team, crazy stuff. :RIP:

RIP.

I literally woke up this morning to it. I go to bed with ESPN radio on and I woke up, still groggy, hearing "Broncos...Aaron Williams shot and killed." I'm thinking, "Wuh? There's an Aaron Williams on the team? sh*t..." so I put on the TV and that's when I saw it. It f*cked me up for a minute. It sounds weird and kinda cold, but usually that stuff doesn't happen to good players.

I just read the AP story off Yahoo. It said that according to investigators, 12 bullet holes are visible in the driver's side, and they think even more shots were fired. That sounds like somebody or some people had beef with him over something specific. That wasn't random, or even some hatin' ass nigga mad cuz he's shining.

These athletes really have to start giving serious thought to whether or not it's worth it to go to clubs. I know they wanna socialize and be on the scene, but they can get a drink, listen to music and pick up bitches just about anywhere. This comes what, 3 months after the Steven Jackson incident. A season after Kelly Herndon was pistol whipped to a fractured skull and concussion. Teams will never be able to tell them to stop partying, but they should try to convince them to have house parties or something. Where it's just you, your real niggas, the leeches in your entourage who you think are your real niggas, and the slew of lascivious bitches. The flunkies might swipe some sh*t from your house, but there's less of a chance of one of them shooting you.

Different sources can never get the same defensive stats. That source had him at 3 tackles yesterday and 88 for the season.
