97 solo tackles, 114 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 7 stuffs, 1 int, 1 fumb forced..

2 tackles behind the leader

Most of us wondered why the Giants didn't at least take him or santonio holmes instead of kiwanuka in the draft...now I wonder even more why we never took Ryans when we really needed LB depth more, but whatever.

I would've been OK with him, but I didn't really want him. Watching tape of him, he looked like someone who'd be a finished product in the league. Someone who is smart (media perk: I talked to a journalist who knows him well and he said he's real bright and is one of those perfect citizen types), has good talent and will produce right way. But not someone with great talent who has star potential. Ernie Sims and A.J. Hawk have star potential. Ryans, I thought, would just come in and be a good linebacker and stay a good linebacker, but no more. His numbers, in that sense, don't surprise me.

Also, watching Gerris Wilkinson on film (who I hadn't even known of before the draft), he looked A LOT like Ryans. Same game; similar build, same strengths and weaknesses. Difference is that Ryans didn't change positions as much and played for a better team on a better defense. The difference between an early 2nd round linebacker and a 3rd round one is often VERY slight. Just like running back. I thought this was one of those situations. I damn sure didn't want Kiwanuka 1st round (and I won't play the hindsight game and say it was a smart decision now because No Neck ain't have no damn idea that Strahan, Osi, Tuck and Moore would all get injured), but I wouldn't have taken Ryans there. I'd have stayed at No. 25 and taken Holmes or after the drop to No. 32, taken Winston Justice.
