- Eli looked OK. He went 4 for 7 and two of the incompletions were drops. The other, he was scrambling to his left and overshot Toomer. Not much of a sampling, but he didn't make any poor throws because of sh*t mechanics, except for that 43-yarder to Burress. It wasn't that bad because he got his feet into position, but he just didn't step into it enough. It was mostly arm and it sailed on him and drifted toward the sidelines. You know in a regular season game, when the refs are in mid-season "f*ck the Giants" mode, that's an incompletion. Buress had two steps on the corner and could've adjusted on it and gone all the way had Eli thrown it more on a line and led him towards the inside. Buress breaking off and slanting right to catch it would've created another step of separation and he'd have taken it all the way. - Brandon Jacobs looked a little Dayne-ish in this game. Like he wanted to run like Tiki. The offensive line was horrible with the run blocks, but there were a few carries where there was a small opening off guard and he passed it up trying to go off tackle and get outside. In know he's thinking "Big gain!" but you can't do that unless it's wide open. That was one of my knocks on Reggie Bush while he was at USC. The one run where Bush wouldn't pick up 10 yards, it was because he passed up a hole inside and turned a should've-been dive into a sweep that went nowhere. Take the sure thing that's right in front of you, especially with his size and power. - The offensive line sucked - starters and reserves. They were bullied by the Ravens front. Same personell so we should expect the same things. They're a good finesse line that excels at pulling, running traps, counters, tosses and screens. But matched up strength vs. strength against a powerful line, they'll crumble - especially Snee and O'Hara. It's what happened against the Panthers. Not that big of a deal though. I think the pass blocking will be good enough and the line is taylor-made for Tiki. But it'll hurt them at some point. - Tim Carter has really stepped up. I was reading that he said it's the first training camp in which he hasn't had to deal with some nagging injury and the first off-season in which he didn't have to recover from something. He said he spent the time working out with Tiki's trainer (Joe Carini) and has something to prove this year. I heard good things about him from camp and he showed some of it last night. Let's see if it's consistent, but he's really improved as a route runner. Before, he was just a fast guy who anything he caught, it was because of his speed - whether beating a defender downfield or getting a big cushion becuase of the speed and catching an out route underdeath. Last night, he ran some crisp routes. Especially that that comeback for 16 yards. Stopped on a dime, spun around and took 2 steps forward to create even more separation. Then he got down on his knees to catch the low throw, rather than trying to bend down as it comes and risk getting hit in the back and dropping it. - Liked Anthony Mix's moves after the catch on that reception from Lorenzen. Stutter-stepped left, juked right and took off towards the middle and got YAC. He's a good project. At 6'4"/235 with 4.50 speed, he could be talented depth and I expect him to make the team. I wanna see him get more action. - The defense sucked. Especially Awason (played like sh*t against the run) and Gibril. On the long run by whichever Raven it was, Awason has containment and bites like a fool on the jab step left and runs in that direction, right into a block. And James Butler f*cked up, too, being late to react and cut him off outside. Gibril got burned by receivers and Todd Heap. I hope it's not a trend. He was so good in coverage his first year then last season, he regressed and was out of position all the time. Not good and it's something to look for the rest of pre-season. - Barry Cofield looked good and he's got a motor. The training camp report on Jonas Seawright was accurate. He's dominant for one play, then does nothing for the next 5. He doesn't play with leverage. He attacks high, gets stood up and then just tries to overpower the guard. He'll get his a few times, but it's not enough to consistently win trench battles. He needs to learn to get low and use technique. But he's someone I can see being effective in a rotation. You pull Joseph for a play or two on long yardage and just let him and Robbins rush and create some havoc up the middle. - Kiwanuka did a good job of burning whicher LT that was. Got him twice on the spin move. He's got good quickness and I like that he's willing to try the spin. Most guy DEs I've seen, they try to bull rush or use the rip and seem afraid of trying something kind of unorthodox. He put it on the LT and FB. But he sucked against the run. He got held up and couldn't even take a step to his right to cut off the runner. But, so did Osi when he started. It's something to work on. And I still hate the pick. - R.W. McQuarters is gonna suck so much. And that's a signing I had liked. What I heard from training camp is that he looks lazy and even on punt returns in practice, he just jogs and half-asses everything. On punt returns last night, he looke slow and lacked quickness. That from a nickel back. A lot of these teams nowadays are putting speedsters in the slot. Don't be surprised if he loses the job and Deloatch is the nickel. - Now I know why the team keeps hoping for something at WR from Ponder and gets dissapointed every time. He can't run routes for sh*t. All of them get rounded off too wide, no sharp breaks. On that in route where he didn't fumble, that would've been an easy catch with room to run after - if he could run a precise route. The corner was off and he had some room, but he takes two extra steps to make a curve instead of running it like a 90 degree angle (I know, it's sad that I notice and care) and the corner converges. With Morton being Coughlin's boy and Michael Jennings having track speed and being able to return punts, there's a good chance he gets cut. - Guy Whimper sucked. I don't expect sh*t except maybe a couple flashes of decency from a rookie OT in his first game - especially a mid-rounder - but the guy was awful and didn't do anything well. I know they drafted him expecting him to be raw (he's a converted DE and TE who faced sh*t competition in college) but dammit, something. Some reason why you were drafted. Nada. He'll make the team. But the same performance from a 7th rounder and he'd be told that he's got until next week to show that he belongs. - I hope Tim Lewis isn't back to that early 2005 bullshit where he has everyone playing zone all the time. The pass defense improved last season when he started using more man and blitzing the edges more. I know it's a pre-season game so they're not gonna give anything away, but wouldn't you, just because you've got a bunch of new guys in the secondary, want to see what they can do? There's no ballhawks in this secondary to compensate for getting picked apart underneath. That's what happens to them in zone. And f*ck what Accorsi thinks, pass rush doesn't reach the quarterback every time. Play some damn man coverage and let's see who is capable of what and get these guys better prepared to play man in 3 weeks. - The win meant nothing. The Giants lost this game. |

I mean it's nice that they won, but it was a pretty crappy game, imo. I was not impressed. |

It was just horrible, the offensive line needs to step up and the same thing with the defensive line. I mean come on, they basically have half the year to practice, you would think they would improve a little bit!!! :no1: |
