FROM NY TIMES

Quote:

SEEKING ROLE PLAYER The Yankees seem likely to add a role player before the trading deadline, like outfielder David Dellucci of the Phillies. But they are also paying close attention to the Milwaukee Brewers, who could offer outfielder Carlos Lee in the coming days.
Milwaukee is on the fringes of the playoff race, and the Yankees would be one of many teams interested in Lee, a power hitter and potential free agent.

The Brewers want to re-sign Lee, but they may trade him if they are not within five games of the wild-card spot by the weekend. Still, the Yankees have internal doubts about whether they match up in a potential trade with the Brewers.

Helping the Yankees’ cause in all trade talks is the emergence of first baseman Eric Duncan, a former No. 1 pick who is enjoying a hot streak at Class AA Trenton. Duncan, who started the season at Class AAA Columbus, was hitting .285 with nine homers through Monday, and had a combined on-base and slugging percentage of .947.

The Yankees have told teams they will not trade starter Phil Hughes or outfielder José Tábata, but they may entertain offers for Duncan.

Anyone I say yay or maybe to, I wouldn't give up much.

RYAN CHURCH - Nay.

LUIS GONZALEZ - Nay.

JEROMY BURNITZ - Nay.

JACQUES JONES - Yay.

PAUL BYRD - Yay.

DAVID DELLUCHI - Yay.

JAY PAYTON - Nay.

DAVID BELL - Nay.

ARTHUR RHODES - No way, nay!

TONY ARMAS JR. - Yay.

TOMO OHKA - Milwaukee is trying to win the Wild Card, otherwise yay.

CORY LIDLE - Nay.

None of them is a big upgrade, so like I said, I am not willing to give up much, but the pitchers I said yay to would be improvements in the 5 hole, and Dellucci or Jones could help out in the outfield until everyone returns, assuming the outfielders will be back eventually. Dellucci can then be the perfect backup and Jones could still play right at times with Sheffield DH'ing. None of these guys excites me though.

Church doesn't do much for me, but I guess he's fine in a backup role.

Oh sure, that's a no brainer. When everyone is back though, there might not be room for either. What would the Bulldog want for him? You can't give up anything of value for a 5th outfielder.
