Guidry and the Joke Don Mattingly Word has already sprinkled about the media concerning Ron Guidry's lack of zest for the job ...As I said first along with my Team - Ron Guidry doesn't know how to use e-mail...you think he knows how too use a laptop video machine? Do you think he's up till 4am breaking down release points - leg kicks and looking for signs of pitch tipping ala Rick Peterson? NO NO NO....you know it and I know it...NONE of these guys have been fixed this season Chacon, Ponson, Smalls, Farnsworth, Proctor etc...they just continue to smell ... Don Mattingly - has there ever been a more obvious Token Job in the history of sports? Didn't Mattingly claim to fix A-Rod 2 mos ago when he found a flaw in his swing? what happened? Where's Donnie? the "HitKing" and his midas touch? What about Foolips -Crosby -Cairo-etc...all are inconsistent at best....where is Don's hitting plan? what is his plan - Does he have a belief ala Rick Down -Charlie Lau - Tony Muser- Ted Williams - Rudy Jarimillo - Chris Chambliss etc etc ???? Does he? All I ever see Don doing is telling war stories to Stinnet - Connors -Mazzilli(another clown hire) and any other suck up who'll listen .... |

Mattingly is doing a really good job. The proof is in the pudding. He is good at what he does. |

I agree on Guidry. But at least Mattingly did find A-Rod's flaw and he got hot for a couple days. You ain't heard sh*t from Guidry. "What am I gonna do? Tell Chacon to throw strikes and use his fastball more often? They're all veterans; they know. f*ck that. I'm up to p. 68 in this fishing magazine."
I guess that's what's buoys A-Rod's spirits and keeps him from crying. |

Wow, great comeback. Is this the part where I make the joke about your wife not having any complaints about my penis when she's stuffing it down her throat? |

I don't really understand the Mattingly one. Major injuries aside you've got Posada and Jeter having career years, Melkey hitting the cover off the ball, before he got hurt Cano was hitting even better than last year, Giambi has been hitting Oakland power numbers and Damon is as good as he's ever been. A-Rod's the only position player not performing at or above expectations and I think it's apparent it's more mental with him. Coaching gets criticized alot but I think guys like Tony Pena who is the one credited for Posada's improved defense and Bowa's fire you could see has rubbed off. Those guys along with Mattingly have been doing a great job. |

No - you understand - you don't want to admit. When you have a player of the ilk of A-Rod....you NEED to fix him...if A-Rod fails...Mattingly is failing more. |

Mattingly didn't even want the job. He just got sick of his wife and milking those cows. |

Maybe if he's Dr. Phil he can do that, but right now it's a loss of confidence, not something mechanical. Waldman loves to talk about how much extra work A-Rod puts in and it's still not getting him anywhere. It isn't like he has a hitch in his swing, he just needs a checkup from the neck up. |

One thing is that he hasn't been able to help ARod much. ARod needs to be more aggressive on first and second pitches and when he gets 2 strikes, he gets called out or is fooled, foolishly.....Would like ARod to cut his 2 strike swing down and use his wrists with short strokes. If he does this there would be more contact. The better he gets at it, the opposite field homers would come. There is no doubt that all MLB pitchers are pitching him either hard on the outside corner or down and away. In this case Donnie Baseball hasn't convinced ARod. Could be ARod is too stubborn to change, just like that tapping the glove (bad habit) he has always had.... |
