LONE STAR: Jorge Posada was one of the few bright spots for the Yanks yesterday, crushing a three-run homer in the third inning that gave them a very short-lived lead. Posada originally was slated to have the day off but has been feeling fresh, Torre said, so he'll likely wait till Wednesday for a rest.

Before the season, there was speculation that Posada's effectiveness was waning. After all of the Yanks' injuries, however, he's become their No. 5 hitter and has seemed more spry - despite playing with a torn left hamstring tendon.

"He's in better shape - he's lost some weight," Torre said, adding that he could envision Posada playing several more years and perhaps becoming a DH/backup catcher at some point. "He's that good a hitter," Torre said.

I've always defended Jorge, but this season he has defended himself pretty well with his play. I'm amazed at the defensive improvement. I didn't think it was possible this late in his career. Its been a pleasant surprise.

Thats a bullshit post Kocur! You know it. I'm not even going to get into it with you. His career stats as a catcher put him near the top offensively all time. He's no Piazza, but he isn't the slouch you go out of your way to make him either. He probably could have been a better catcher if he didn't step behind the plate so late into his baseball career.

Posada needs to be the starting catcher until Jeter retires or Danica will get offended like last season.

A Molina/Posada combo would sure look good right now.

I haven't seen Molina throw anyone out this year.

And then they both walk after the season and Kelly Stinnet and Will Nieves are our catchers next year.
