From the Post:
- Quote:
-
July 24, 2006 -- TORONTO - The Yankees have made an offer to the Phillies for outfielder Bobby Abreu that was immediately turned down because it didn't include major league-ready talent or top prospect Phil Hughes.
Like other teams, the Yankees believe if they take on Abreu's contract ($23.5 million through next year) and pick up his $16 million option in 2008 for him to waive a no-trade clause, they shouldn't have to part with upper-crust prospects such as Hughes, who suitors have been told is untouchable

I don't want Abreu in Yankee pinstipes anyway! Glad we don't have what it takes to get his overpaid ass, we have enough of that type here already. There are other options.

This is a guy who would think a Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera for Bill Hall and Derrick Turnbow deal is a good trade for the Yankees.

You want to go watch soccer, bicycling, wrestling, football...whatever, be my guest. I'll still be a true Yankee fan and hang in there until there eliminated.

You and me both, MM! I watch other sports, but the Yankees are always number one in my heart, and there's no reason to give up. Even if eliminated, I'd watch most of the games, and focus on the future of the team.

I agree. People seem to forget, that even with a lineup decimated by injuries, this team is hanging close, and still very much in the mix! I post my hatred for situations and stupid decisions as much as anybody, and spew my disgust at the underachievers as much as the next guy, but I was born a Yankee fan, and will remain one till my last breath.

Maybe Mench will be a part of one of those trades where the player just switches clubhouses during a series. That's always interesting to see.

He's good, but I don't know if he's a long-term solution. I know he's been on Web Gems a few times, but by the numbers, he's not a good defender. He's got a lower fielding percentage and range factor than Sheffield -- who we've watched. And for someone who hits for pretty good power, he doesn't walk enough. He's a .280/30-35 HR/100 RBI type and that's good, but that's not a "lock him down until he's 35 at $15M per" player. Come now.

Come now.
Yeah, no way you give him that money or that length. Word on the street is that part of the reason Milwaukee doesn't want to go that long is they don't believe he will be more than a DH in a few years. I'd be fine with 3 years at $13 million, something like that, but $15 million a year for 5? No way.

He's got 12sb also.
So? Miguel Cairo has 10.

We're even more FECKED then before.
Duncan, Chacon, Thompson, and White for Carlos Lee :D
The key part of that deal is Duncan and the Brewers already have a first baseman.
yeah, but then they can spin Duncan for something else. But....have to have a window to sign Lee to a 3 year 40 mill deal...feck that 5-75 he wants. :please: Enough of the fantasy island, skippy. Just get blue collar Menchhhhhhhhh and be done with it. ;)
Mench can be plan B :please: Plan B will be gone by then. :peace:
We're going to have to fine you for overuse of :please:

Sheffield can top those numbers (he can get your 15 steals too) and wouldn't make $15M per.
