Too bad that there's not a Leftfield in hockey because that's where this decision seems to have come out of. Color me shocked to the nth power. Given this late date, I really thought they were holding out for Laviolette. But, I guess once the 'Canes owner said that he would match any deal--and it looked like a fait accompli that Lavy would be winning the Cup--then it was time to make a choice before the Draft got here.

I heard Ted Nolan on the 'FAN last year with Steve Somers, and he specifically addressed the "Hasek Affair" rumors head on. I was extremely impressed by that. As for Neil Smith, I was impressed that he held onto the kids when it was clear that he was a lame duck GM with the Rangers and could have moved them for veterans just to save his job with a respectable finish.

While LaFontaine and Trottier were phenomenal players, I don't know what to make of their business acumen.

Since it's official, props to Brad Shaw, who I think did a marvelous job this past season.

Are they still going to call it "The LaFontaine Cup?"

They need a Ranger to win them that 5th Cup, huh? I don't care that he started as an Islander. He's known as the man to end the Cup curse in the Garden.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Slater?

I'm talking about Neil Smith, not Ted Nolan. I guess I see the resemblance with AC a little bit. I felt like I was having flashbacks to college, which was when Nolan was an up and coming young coach for my roommate's favorite team, only to be fired, and never seen again until today!

If William Shakespeare was right when he penned the words, “Sweet are the uses of adversity,” Neil Smith and Ted Nolan know what The Bard was talking about

Just to add, Michael Peca is an unrestricted FA and loves Ted Nolan.

He has played like his old nasty self the second half of the season and playoffs, dominating nightly in an area we need desperate improvement, FACE OFFS!!!

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him return to LI!

LUCKY

The fans don't want him back. He is the most unfreindlyest to fans from Buffalo to Edmonton.

When did Peca start playing good hockey this year? 2nd round of the playoffs.

I would NOT be surprised to see him play in LA next year. He can be reunited with Parrish. Because he rules.

That's correct timo. But he never started for the Islanders. 1980-1981 he got a ring with the Isles for being a scout.

I think you mis-understood Led. He probably meant "started" to mean "got his start with"

I disagree, LED likes to mis-lead.
Someone not in the know will read his post and think.

"Hey, thats great, bring back one of the old players"

He spent 1 year as a scout for the Islanders. Never playing in the NHL. His next move is to send PM's to someone that will listen. Which he has done already on this board.

AH ??? Retarded ???

I don't go around from board to board to board. With links, posting much of the info you do just to add on a post count. Not that that is bad. It just seems you talk to yourself a lot. Over at NYIC, you continusely post nonsense. Adding nothing to a thread or breaking the continuity of a thread.

LINKS?

You have said many many times before that your know it all of all things NYI is beyond reproach. If so, just post the facts, not what you want them to be. Like, a month back, at least, you said that Craig Patrick was a done deal. Announcment to be made on the following Monday. It was from an inside source :laugh2: , just like all the trades that were already in the bag. Yet, none of them came about b/c your Insider had wrong info as usual. Or was it you just making up stories so some would PAY for your info.

And I don't go calling people names. Makes you small.

I come here for looking at the NNY threads. And I'll post here on occasion. I know some who refuse to come on this ,Isles< b/c of your presence.
That's sad. :no1:

By December there will be numerous "Fire Renny and Slates ******" threads on the rag boards.

Smith is an upgrade over Milbury .

As for Nolan, I am happy for him and think that he'll do a good job for the Isles.

His return to the NHL is long overdue and maybe now that's he's back we'll find out why he seemed to be blackballed for so long.

Islanders are now playoff team and maybe legit Cup contenders.

Tony from Smithtown

I agree great choice with Nolan even greater is Lafontain
The Islanders are going to be a force to deal with ,they just got respectable.
