Philly Inquirer - Yankees scouting Phils

Quote:

Yankees eye Phillies

A New York Yankees scout was in town this weekend to look at the Phillies' corner outfielders, Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu. The Phillies made Burrell and Abreu available for trades in the off-season, but they were looking for top-of-the-rotation pitching help.

Sources say the Yankees have some interest in Burrell, who could be used in the outfield and at designated hitter.

Trenton Times - Hughes speculation

Hughes has a refreshing outlook

Thunder

Phillip Hughes admits that at times, to use his word, it is "weird."

It's not overwhelming, or even intimidating, just a little "weird" for the 19-year-old Hughes, a Thunder right-hander and the Yankees' top prospect.

Imagine being 19, not much older than some of the players playing in the high school state tournaments this week, and seeing and hearing your name in every rumor that involves the Yanks making a trade.

"It's always good to see that teams want you," Hughes, the 2004 first-round pick, said. "And it's even better to know the Yankees want to keep me."

The rumors -- whether it's for Florida's Dontrelle Willis, Oakland's Barry Zito, the Giants' Jason Schmidt or any other available established starting pitcher -- will continue until the Yankees either make a move or the July 31 trade deadline passes.

As for now, every time the Yanks make a call and the other teams ask for the Hughes, the answer is no.

That, of course, could change if the deal becomes too good and the Yankees current staff continues to struggle.

It ain't happening amit. There must not have been much to write about in Philly.

And RAWWWWJAAAHH will go to the highest bidder with a chance at the postseason, so Houston and McClane can go suck the big one, they have a better chance of seeing pigs fly than winning the world series!

I love that place, I went there when I was down for Spring Training in 2003, food was great!

Trading the few prospects we have for a corner outfielder would be a huge mistake. Stick with the Melkmeister.

Starting pitching is our biggest weakness.

Sports writters for newspapers don't understand prospects, their worth, or actual baseball really. To them Hughes=Claussen/Milton/ect and Schmidt/Zito=typical Yankee pickup. The only pitchers Hughes would be moved for are untouchable themselves(Santana, Liriano, Verlander, Halladay, Peavy, Oswalt, Kazmir, Harden...) Willis is the only guy mentioned where I could see George moving Hughes for, but Cashman wouldn't allow that. Hughes will stay put.
