I like the general idea, but if I had to look at Kevin Millar everyday in pinstripes, the lining of my esophagus would start deteriorating because I'd be puking daily. I did like him as a player on the Marlins, but I thought his act on Boston was tiresome with the constant different looks (hey, look at me! I have a new style beard and I shaved my mullet!) and silly phrases.

I guess what needs to happen is to find a scrapper to play rightfield if Sheffield is allowed to walk and obviously the next catcher should be more of a defensive minded, smaller name guy. Every other spot is basically tied up with long-term contracts.

It's so f*cking true, these guys are a bunch of rich spoiled f*cks! They sip their mimosas and eat their fresh fruit and croissants! They don't wake up and pound a beer and eat some bacon and sausage with a side of eggs! f*ck these clowns. Tinman is scared out there, if he only had a heart!

I'd love Jonny Gomes, he'd fit the roll well but the Rays ain't trading him!

Looking at the free agent list, Trot Nixon actually would be a fit here. Not sure we'd go that direction though.

I don't know if the Yankees need another DH, but I do love Gomes' bat and youth. He's not a good fielder though. The Yankees need guys who play hard and play tough D.

Sheffield is a loafter in right so at this point I don't mind playing Gomes out there, not that it's happening.

Trot is actually the type that would fit well, you're right. I don't like his constant nagging injuries, but he's a scrapper and plays the position of need. I wouldn't want any kind of big money thrown at him though and no more than 2-3 years.

As an aside, when did he switch to the double ear flapped helmet? Did he take it over when Bellhorn left?

If I was going the Nixon route, I probably wouldn't half ass it, and go for Drew. He's a better version with the same problem, but much more upside

Then you have to trade players and pay $11 million a year to a guy who will be hurt more than Nixon.

Nixon won't be cheap, considering he's making like 8 or 9 already, and Drew has an out in his contract per someone here

It looks like he does have an out, but there's no way in hell he'd take it. Nobody else would give him more than $11 million a year for another three.

Quote:

J.D. Drew of
5 years/$55M (05-09)

    * $2M signing bonus
    * 05:$9M, 06-09:$11M/year
    * escape clause gives Drew the right to leave as a free agent after 2006
    * signed as a free agent 12/04
    * 1 year/$4.2M (2004), avoided arbitration 1 /04
    * 1 year/$3.7M (2003), avoided arbitration 1 /03
    * 1 year/$3.1M (2002), signed 1 /02
    * 4 years/$7M (1998-2001)
    * agent: Scott Boras
    * ML service: 7.020

Quote:

Trot Nixon of
3 years/$19M (2004-06), plus escalators

    * 04-06:$6.5M/year, plus incentives
    * replaces 1 year/$6.6M deal signed 1/04 (avoided arbitration)
    * 1 year/$4M (2003), avoided arbitration 1/03
    * 1 year/$2.7M (2002), avoided arbitration 1/02
    * drafted 1993 (1-7)
    * agent: Ron Shapiro
    * ML service: 7.044

I'd be ok with 3 years, $21 million to Trot with absolutely no no-trade clauses.
