Johnson will face Josh Beckett, who is facing a crisis of his own. After starting the season 3-0, the right-hander is winless in his last three starts and has an ERA of 9.56.

Both these guys are due for a good start, I could see this one being a pitcher's duel.

Ya know, I'm expecting a loss, so I'm trying not to get too upset with the game. But I just want one thing. If RJ is going to show up today with his straight fastball, no slide piece, and no control, can he at least put one in Ortiz's helmet?

Ya know, if you buy into the stats like K/B ratio and WHIP being an indication of future success, which I do to a pretty good degree, RJ is pitching in bad luck to have a 5.02 despite a 1.16 and 3/1 ratio. I thought he got screwed in the Anaheim start, which was still good, but otherwise, it feels like that ERA is well-earned and self induced.

I just noticed I type like I'm speaking. "Ya know"

Homie, my Varitek-Posada platoon, I decided on Varitek against the straight fastball capable RJ than Posada against Beckett. Good choice, ya think

I see a little lateness on his fastball, like he had against KC

Velocity is down though. You can hear the lack of pop in Posada's glove.

Wonderful, Youkalis leadoff walk

Loretta hits into the DP. Cano has been solid in the field since his little sh*t at the beginning of the year

Pitching away from Ortiz. Almost just IBB

That was basically an IBB. Christ, at least drill him instead of giving him 4 balls

One of these days, Posada needs to sprint down the line and punch the f*ck out of these check swing squeezing ahole umps

Ramirez grounds out. I wonder if Torre is incorporating a "Let Ramirez beat you instead of Ortiz" strategy. They wanted nothing to do with the ape even with none on.

You can hear the desire to suck Beckett's dick in Kaat's voice. He's due for one of those games where he just slobbers all over an opposing pitcher

Damon's working some pitches

Damon gets blown away for the first strikeout. Pitch actually tailed over the plate, but had enough pop to get away with it.

I don't like Giambi against these type of power pitchers. Prove me wrong

Beckett's got to establish the curve or he'll start getting hurt

Beckett isn't locating anything aside from his fastball decently. Gotta get him

You can get away throwing fastballs left and right to the Royals or something, but not against the Yanks. He's still doing it to A-Rod

Yankfan, Beckett's throwing like Randi on hus bad days, only a few MPH higher and more movement. We need runs galore before he finds his off-speed
