I think Crawford, Gathwright, and Nuke could beat him in a race.

Ichiro gets down the line the fastest for sure. You don't even have to fully bobble a ball fully, just don't pick a routine grounder clean, and he can beat it. But that probably also factors in his hustle on every play and the fact he swings with his momentum already heading towards first. I'm not sure in terms of a race who would do the best though

Reyes is really fast but take a little to get out of the box. I've actually heard that Gathright is one of the, if not the fastest. It's a pitty he doesnt get to play.

Down the line he is probably the fastest, but there are a few guys with more raw foot speed than Ichiro. I believe Gathwright is the current fastest man in the bigs. Crawford and Reyes come to mind as a couple of others who are likely faster.

Reyes or Taveras at first glance are two of the fastest. Corey Patterson ran a 6.3 60 time which is unbelievable

Chone(sp?) Figgins may be one of the fastest too

my guess is Gath beats that easily. A 6.3 hand time isn't that remarkable, it equates to about a 6.55 FAT time, I can do it. Thats what Furcal runs too, and while they are both very fast, the fastest man in baseball is probably around 6.45(6.2 handtime). My guess is its Gathwright with all the other guys mentioned a few hundreths behind him.

On edit Furcal runs a 6.5, not 6.3...my bad. It suprises me a bit that Patterson is faster than Furcal. Maybe when he gets released i'll get a chance to race him

"I think I got faster. I ran a 6.19 (60-yard dash) maybe three weeks ago. A 6.18 was my best time in high school, but that was a one-time thing. They measured this one with lasers."
That quote is from Darren Ford of the Milwalkee Brewers farm system. 6.19 with Lasers(FAT time) is rediculous. 55 meters and 60 yards are roughly the same. The fastest 55 dash time in the Nation (DIII) this year was 6.29 by a kid named Anthony Miles(I've raced him, got smoked). If this guy in the Brewers system is serious about them using lazers then he's faster than any of them. Gathright has been clocked at 6.1, but that was a long time ago and i'm pretty sure it was hand time since he's about a 6.3 now and the conversions match up. Furcal runs a 6.5...I'm faster. Baldelli was 6.3 hand, a bit slower than Gath, but still fast. Justin Upton supposedly runs a 6.2, thats nuts. Couldn't find Ichiro's time, but I assume all those guys are faster with the possible exception of Furcal.

I'm more interested to know who the strongest in the majors is or who has the quickest bat speed. We start getting into speedsters, coincidentally, they aren't the elite of the league.

Yeah, speed is probably the most overrated tool in baseball. Its fun for me to see who runs what because I can compare it to what I run, but when we're talking about Gathright and Darren Ford in a baeball conversation we're basically talking about players that don't matter a ton.

On edit I was just looking at some old meet results and I beat Anthony Miles at the outdoor championships in 05. He obviously had a horrible race by his standards, may have even been injured, but I did beat him. Aaaaanyway the reason I even found this thread was that I was looking for the Yankee stat prediction thread from the beggining of the year. Anybody know where that one is?
