the yankees have been in 2 tight games in the late innings and we've seen scott proctor, mike myer, jared wright, and tanyon sturtz. where the hell is rivera?!!! why 2 nights ago is scott proctor in the game when its a tie game in the bottom of the 9th?!! torre had rivera in the pen and farnsworth who only pitched 2/3 of an inning the inning before!! why last night in the 8th inning did torre bring in jared wright!!! didn't they sign farnswoth to be the 8th inning guy? then to top it off after the game is already out of hand, then clueless joe brings in farnsworth. managers in baseball will never win games 4 a team but as we've seen the past 2 nights managers can sure lose games 4 a team. |

Mm-hmm. There should be people picketting and burning sh*t down for the fact that Torre makes more than Bill Billichick and Mike Shanahan and Mike Martz (what!?). |

Absolutely, Strizzle. I was saying this yesterday, and of course I remembered your nice breakdown of lead guys in sports(And yes, the NASCAR dude with the headsets has a tougher job than a manager) All managers should make in the hundred grands at most with no guaranteed contracts. All they are doing is penciling in a lineup and playing the percentages that most fans that follow regularly understand. And they can still win despite being wrong. You really think in the NFL a coach can f*ckup or go comatose during a game and win? Not very likely. |

Do you think that it just may be possible that Torre is trying to assess his talent level in the bp and how to use them for the long season ahead? Or am I giving Torre too much credit? :dunno: |

ST really doesn’t tell you squat. I’ve seen too many guys look great in st and sh*t once the season starts. I’ve also seen it the other way around. But you do have a point. Most managers have a plan on how their going to use guys and stick to it until they see it’s not working. It almost seems Torre is pulling the moves out of his rear at times. |

amen to that, you have to assess talent early in the season...maybe not with the game on the line, but hey you can't unring a bell and we can't go back and change those games, all we can do it look ahead to fridays game and the 158 after it |

first of all, Torre has almost as many rings as those three combined, plus Martz hasn't won sh*t as a HC |

f*ck no! And the only time he can do that and even keep his job is if it's Herman Edwards or Jim Fassel. And you know what else is f*cked up? They have the nerve to give the manager a bench coach. I can't say that without smiling. An assistant manager. I can't even continue on that cuz you know it would turn into a 600-word post. |

......If you knew how much that hurt me. Honestly, I'm offended. I won't even argue it. I don't want to die in front of my monitor with smileys on the left laughing.
Forget about ST for assessment. Torre has had 2+ years (and 2 or 3 spring trainings) to assess Scott Proctor, a 29-year-old. And the organization has done enough assessing to know that he can't be trusted - that's why they went out and spent big bucks on Farnsworth, Villone, Myers, and Sturtze. So Proctor, who has proven in those 2+ years that he shouldn't be in a tied game in the 9th, doesn't have to be in a tied game in the 9th. But I guess it's like Michael Kay said, "There isn't enough depth in the bullpen and Joe didn't have any options." |

rsj said it best yesterday.. If he is used, you're complaints would be he's been used too much and will wear down at season's end... Too predictable. |

[snaps fingers] Pay attention, nigga. Most of us didn't want Rivera brought in. We said that in response to Terp's post in the other thread. The bullpen is more than 2 deep. It's not just Scott Proctor or Mariano Rivera. Just because we didn't like Proctor being in doesn't mean we wanted Rivera being wasted in a tie game in the 9th on the road. |

Seems to be the topic starter is disappointed that Rivera hasn't appeared in any games, 3 games into the season. I agree with your point though. I was just stating it to the topic starter. |

Aight, but you've gotta make it clear because it would look like it's for all of us complaining. Jeter's just mad cuz Damon missed Bradley's triple and he probably thinks Bubba would'a had that. The offseason makes me forget sh*t. Are you a Torre hater or supporter (there's no middle ground)? |

As Yankee fans we cant over manage. Torre knows what he is doing. These are reeal times games. Beside we always start slow. We need to wait on george give the charge call. You know, he makes a comment like. "If we dont turn this around soon, Im going to . . . . . " Then the team goes on a tear. |

Well I do think Torre is the Phil Jackson of baseball. Very fortunate situations with great teams... But today no, i'm not a Torre supporter. I won't blast him as bad as the VC, but I do call him out on his mistakes and whatnot. I'm on the Lou Piniella bandwagon for 2007 for the record. |

You can't use Mo in that spot on the road. Say Torre did and Mo pitched 2 innings and the game was still tied. Yanks take the lead in the 12th...who closes the game then? I would have used Farnsworth to start the 9th. He only threw 10 pitches. If he doesn't want to use Farnsworth he could have gone with Villone. You need your closer to close the game out on the road. If this was Sept. and the Yanks are fighting for their playoff lives then I agree you use Rivera. But not game 3 into the season. Any option would have been better there aside from Proctor or Wright. |
