Do you recall all the Yankee fans who used to compare A-Rod to Jeter back in the day and say Jeter had all the intangibles blah blah  :laugh2: |

I think we all fell for that. The two players don't even comapre. A-Rod is the player of the game tonight. Grand slam, 3 hits, 5 RBI, nice plays in the field. All Danica did tonight was hit a ball hard :-| |

Even for a sunshiner the highest i ever had him was 2nd...well, 1st in 99 obviously, but overall second because of nomar's unjuries. I will say in his defense, he's as solid as your gonna get on balls he gets too. His range to his left isn't great, but overall i'd call him even defensively, maybe even a small plus. |

The argument should have never been Jeter vs A-Rod. That was sunshiney Yankee f*cks and teenagers. The true debate was Nomar and A-Rod. Nomar pre-injury was Tony Gwynn with pop and on two broken legs better range and a better arm than Jeter in the field. |

Could you imagine a healthy Noamr still on Boston with Ortiz and Manny? We got a taste of that in 2003 but Ortiz wasn't quite Papi yet Nomar was still battling some injuries. |

You'd be my amigo for that, since it's so friggin obvious. It's not just lack of range, Christ, everything sneaks through. You watch some other teams games and you see a grounder to SS and you assume basehit, only to see a SS run into the play and make it with ease and you're wowed, thinking "Shortstops are supposed to do that." Jeter has terrific hands on the ball right at him, he's got good instincts, and he can run down those flyballs, but he's not a gold-glover. He can't get anything to his left or right. That jump and throw sh*t is all theatrics. You can get that play made much easier. |

Couldn't speak with him too long, I was watching the game. He was pretty much just partying, not sure who or what brought him out there. He said it was a f*cking blast and great times! Matty rolls first class all the way! |

Nomar's stats were better for a few years than Jeets but in fairness...Nomar was a poor fielder - known for letting balls get by him and making errors in the crunch....Nomar was also the product of that Left field wall - He at one point was a .253 hitter on the road... Not to mention Jeet went up to Boston and beat him in the playoffs. |

Nomar a lot like Tejada defensively is too athletic for their own good if that makes sense. His arm was so strong, he'd throw balls away and he'd boot balls that other SS shouldn't get too. But I agree, I don't think he was a gold-glover. From what I recall as well, those huge disparities in road and home games came towards the later part of his Red Sock career when he was no longer the type of hitter he was pre-wrist injury. Nomar in his prime hit everywhere. You don't hit .370 by accident./ |

I had Jeter's back when people were saying he was the worst SS in baseball and that Soriano was better. I agree with both Cano and Flair; Nomar made some idiot plays, even on balls hit right at him, but his lateral range while not in the Tejada class IMO was really good. Jeter is rock solid, and goes in and out as good as any, but despite improvement still isn't great up the middle. You could see an obvious improvement since A-Rod has been here, but I was still pretty supprised that he won a gold glove. I think Tejada would have had atleast one of them had he not made so many bizare bone head mistakes. If Eduardo Nunez ever ends up playing for the Yankees, i hear he's supposed to have a sick glove. |

Back before Jeter turned into this overrated chump, I'd make the argument for Nomar. I love batting average so he was my guy. That sweet level, linedrive swing. He'd just sting the ball. Them little sissy groundballs Jeter hits kinda bothers me. Nomar, he was making better contact and even his groundouts were harder hit. Cano, 100% on the jump-throw sh*t. His lack of range makes it look like a better and more difficult play than it should be Nomar makes that f*cking play like nothing. He gets over and backhands, if not get infront of that bitch, then guns it over. The slingshot arm. Who the f*ck throws bullets sidearm? And I think I either defended Jeter's range at the time or didn't get involved. He was the only SS that I had watched enough of so I didn't know shortstops - like Cano said - were supposed to get to balls he missed. Had never heard of range factor to do a comparison. Then someone had posted a Sabremetrics dude article saying Derek was one of the worst SS's and I was like, "Get the f*ck outta here." But when you realize it, it stands out. I think his range has improved the last couple years (he gets to more balls up the middle) but he is probably below average there. Overall, because he almost never makes throwing errors and the fielding is good, I'd call him a pretty good defensive SS. He's won the Gold Gloves by default. |
