So how we are going 3 thru 6? I'd prefer A-Rod, Sheff, Matsui, Giambi for now. |

You'd put Giambi cleanup? I know you have man-love for him, but I can't see him being in that spot, at least not yet. |

I've spent a lot of thought and posted with Homie and others about this. I think if you want Giambi up in the order, it has to be 3rd because of his OBP and how he can set the table for the RBI guys 3. Giambi 4. A-Rod Now, I think there is still a good debate between whether Sheffield or Matsui should bat 5th. Sheffield hits best with runners on base, but then again isn't Matsui capable of a better year? Or I'd do this: 3. A-Rod 4. Matsui 5. Sheffield 6. Giambi Let's Giambi set up the bottom of the order which will be our weak spot. Might help balance the lineup IMO |

We all know what the 1-2 and 7-9 will be. I think Torre should either do; 3. A-Rod 4. Giambi 5. Sheff 6. Matsui If Giambi hits .220 and looks like a real slob get him out of the cleanup spot. If he's hitting .270 and getting on base at a .420 clip then leave him. 3. A-Rod 4. Matsui 5. Sheff 6. Giambi Basicly you just Giambi and Matusi. The bottom line is there's really no wrong way to do the 3-6 in the lineup. |

I agree. You can basically have them stand in a circle and let Torre spin around with his eyes closed and point. If Giambi is hitting to his averages from a year ago(.270, .440, .530) then I can see a good argument to hit him 3rd. Me and Cano were going back and fourth for a while on this and I was pretty much convinced that 3rd was the way to go if Giambi was hitting well. Say for example Damon and Jeter go down to start a game...If A-Rod is 3rd then he hits with nobody on and 2 outs. If A-Rod is 4th then he either leads off the 2nd with nobody out or hits with a runner on(which will happen more often with the league leader in OBP hitting infront of him). If, on the other hand, either Damon or Jeter get on base then A-Rod is all but assured an AB anyway regardless of who is 3rd, and has a pretty good chance of an AB with two men on. If Giambi is hitting well then batting him 3rd may be the best way to utilize our best hitter. Against lefties he should probably hit 6th either way. |
