Matt Smith sucks. PERIOD. The guy is garbage. He's a 27 year old AAA pitcher. Nothing more. |

Smith has a nasty slider going away from lefties and he seems to locate his fastball pretty well in general, but his fastball really doesn't have much movement and he's fairly hittable because of that. |

Yankees lose. Bubba makes the final out. Colome with the win, Homie's boy Matt Smith (1,310th overall pick in the 1997 draft) gets the loss. Final game of the Spring in Florida is a loss. Moose looked like sh*t, Mendoozer, Villone, and Sturtze looked OK. |

If Mike Myers is any kind of useful major league pitcher than Matt Smith is. Lefties don't hit him and unlike Myers he stands a prayer against a right handed batter. He'll never be a set-up man, but he'll be a major leaguer. Other than that, Bubba is worthless, Sturtze sucks, and Moose is going to be beyond annoying this year. Matt Smith is the least of my worries with this team. |

Yet. Today. Quite possible. Not because he's trash though. He has a major league slider, and is death on lefties. |

Yes, the guy has been in the Yankee farm system for 4 or 5 years already. If your as big a loser as me and watch YES on days the Yankees don't play, you'll have seen him pitch a number of times when they show Clippers and Thunder games. |

I'm a HUGE loser! Wait... anyway if you've seen him regularly how could you not like him as a lefty specialist/last man in the pen? I'm confused, do you think I see him as a setup man or something? Also anything before last year should be ignored. He had no buisness starting with his 1 and a half pitches. He's not May/Franklin/Groom/Stanton/Embree. I know that doesn't mean he's good, but when I think nobody I think of guys with no visable value. |

I didn't say I've seen him regularly, but I've seen him pitch 5 or 6 times over the past 3 years. I admit most of those were starts, and he was a terrible starter, why they thought he could be a starter with his 1 good pitch is beyond me. I haven't seen him much as a reliever, and if you look at his numbers since he's been moved to the pen, they are pretty good. But nothing special. And his outting today, I saw the same pile of trash I used to watch starting for the Thunder. He has 1 pitch, a good slider. That's all. Maybe he can be like Mike Myers and come in and get one lefty to look foolish, like he did to Crawford, but besides that AB with Crawford he looked like total trash. Lefty Huff even got a RBI hit off him. |
