There whole staff is a question mark. A 43 year old that relies on power couldn't get it done in NY last year. Mussina? Can he pitch a full season. Pavano? NL trash. I told you that last year. Wright? See Pavano. Chacon and Wang? You think they are going to give you what they gave you last year. Farnsworth. This guy was NL garbage until Mazzone got ahold of him. How did Jaret Wright look last year a year after Mazzone got ahold of him. Expect that, but expect it to hurt a lot more because of the late innings with Farnsworth. Dotel? Talk about question mark. Rely on a guy not even a year off of TJ surgery. That'll work. |

I just accesed this over in the Mets forum. When it comes to starting pitching just about every team has question marks. Mussina has never been hurt his entire career until last year. It's not like he's an injury prone guy, I expect him to be healthy this year but I'm no fool, he's on the wrong side of his career that's for sure. Johnson is a freak of nature, he's 43 but he's still going to win at least 17 games, probably more this year, and pitch to a sub 3.50 ERA, mark that down. Really at this point what we need is a big time # 3 to step up. In comes Wang and Chacon. Will they repeat what they did last year? Maybe, maybe not. I think it's a safe bet that one of them will, and if that's the case there is a very solid top three!!! Wangs major concern is can he stay healthy, if he does he has some sick stuff. That is such a heavy sink and that 4 seamer has some really good movement on it, he's got the stuff, but can he stay healthy. Chacon is no doubt a question mark. HOwever, he's done nothing to make us doubt he can't do it. He was money down the stretch to get us into the postseason. He was clutch in Game 4 against Anaheim and took us to a game 5. He was very good again this spring. I think he'll be fine, but I will agree he is a question mark. Now on to the #5 starter. Wright, Pavano, Small........ Wright to start and then probably Pavano, I don't cound on ANY of these guys, but again we are talking fifth starter here and if the above pitchers pitch well this won't kill us. Pavano is a pussy, I don't expect anythi8ng out of him, I hate Jaret WRong, Smallsie seems like the most solid, but he probably will get most of his time out of the pen. Look at Boston, our division rival. There's another staff for example with quetions. The age of Wells, Schilling getting older and the ankle, Becket and his fragile arm. Most teams have questions on the staff, but you have to love the Yankees depth, that's one of the strengths of this staff. s |

1)Farnsworth was pretty Dominant with Detroit last year too. And two other seasons with the Cubs. He seems to have an every other year thing going, which may be bad for us. I wouldn't call him NL trash or a Mazzone product though. Certainly not along the lines of Wright. 2)Johnson was 17-8 with a 3.78 and 207 strikeouts last year. He had a bad april and a bad playoff start. It happens. But he certainly "cut it" Other than that your pretty much right to be honest. Chacon will regress to the mean, but probably still be decent, Wang will get better if healthy, but that may be a stretch for him. |

I can't say RJ cut it last year. We brought him here to be an "ace" and win us a WS. I don't think a 3.78 ERA qualifies as "ace" quality and certainly his putrid start in Game 3 cost us dearly, a number 1 doesn't lose that game and if he does he doesn't lose it by pitching as pitiful as The Big Soft L did in that game. He won 17 games, but this lineup can certainly help bail pitchers out. The bottomline is that RJ had a "good" year, but that's not what he was brought here for. He was here to win us a WS and instead he pitched like a number 2 or 3 starter. |

I agree that he didn't live up to his billing, but there is a difference between that and "not being able to cut it" in my mind. Johnson's era was about as good as Clemens' always was while here. I think Clemens was better than that once. I'm not going to say RJ had a great year or that he didn't annoy the crap out of me with his pussness, but I think "can't cut it" is reserved for people who come here and pitch terrible. Clemens first season for example, and even that was close to bareable. |

RJ didn't do what he came here to do, but it wasn't like he was a disaster, he won 17 games to a 3.79 ERA, not bad at all but not what we expected. He'll be better this year, no f*cking doubt. Oh yeah, bottom line is this, but Muet fans need to shaddup and realize we will once again win more games then they do, get to October baseball while they are sitting at home watching the playoffs. Enjoy guys! |

I'm not an admin. I didn't think "monkey-see, monkey-do" rules applied to the decision makers. Quite a defense you've chosen. |
