The closer we get to the season, I'm less thrilled about Farnsworth projecting as our PRIMARY setup man. I like him when he's one of a bunch of good arms, not the main setup guy. He's not going to be as effective for us as Gordon, so I hope people aren't expecting that. I like him more in the middle of the game instead of towards the end. I just can't see him getting through Ramirez, Ortiz, and Varitek in a tight game in the 8th inning like Gordon could during the regular year. He's also gonna leave some Sturtze fat ones where even the worst in the league can send him yard, see Brad Ausmus. When Dotel is back, I'll be a lot happier.

Farnsworth is one of those idiots who gets nervous and overthinks. He has a good fastball, just stick to it. If he's going to be throwing breaking pitches, he will be getting burned a lot, especially by Boston. That pitch he through to Adam Stern in the 9th was an absolute joke.

He overthrows his fastball a lot and it comes in Scott Proctor like straight. Plus, the slider hangs as well. That's why I'm saying. I like the signing, but I wish we were trotting him out with less pressure, ideally 6th, 7th inning

Good point about his fastball, but it's still his best pitch, stick to it.

Either way, I don't think I'm going to trust this guy. He could be good for some big outs here and there but I hope Dotel pans out or we're screwed.

Funny that both were brought up in the same thread, I think Farnsworth is a good comparison to Hansen. Huge upside with some kinks that may prevent them from being big time closers.

Well, hopefully we won't have to worry about Farnsworth closing games, if Mo goes down we're REALLY screwed.
