I know its only spring training, but you know this is gonna be his MO all year. He'll look great for 5 or 6 innings one day and then come out and get smashed in his next start. I think Wang and or Chacon are going to need to step up, #2 starters need to be consistant. |

Without a doubt. He'll have a solid game where his curve his breaking then he'll have a game where he's out after 4 innings and 10 hits and then he'll give you the Moose special where he gives up 1 run thru 5 and then gives up 4 in the 6th. The guy is toast 9-10 W/ 4.87 ERA and a 3 week stint on the DL. If Johnson is Johnson and Wang and Shacon step up to be the #2 and 3 guys like they should, then Pavano and Mussina can go f*ck themselves. |

True, but you can also add in that he'll look good in a start and then get hammered that very start. Frustrating motherf*cker, that Mussina. And now he's probably the highest paid salary wise this year, right? What other SP gets as much as him in terms of salary |

Oh hell yeah. I forgot to mention that. Thats the worst part. He'll be coasting and then just get slapped around. And it happens so fast its not even like you can really plan ahead and have someone ready. Cano good point about his contract. I forgot it was so back loaded. 19 freaking mil last year, i could only imagine what he makes in 06 :no1: |

Batters are way too comfortable in the box against him. You ever play a video game and lose, but the whole time you don't feel like you were beaten and if you get another chance, you'll win? That's gotta be what batters feel like going against Moose. Where's the intimidation? |

Great point. Moose has never been an intimidator though and he won't start now. Though if there ever was a time he should try it'd be this year. |

Recently the Tigers got the Yankees number. I don't think we've done well against them. :dunno: |

It would be interesting to see on a year to year basis, since Moose became a Yankee, the number of starts he’s been effective, the number of starts he’s cruising and then the roof falls in and the number of starts he’s been garbage. It would be interesting to see the degradation on a year to year basis. It could be used to predict his performance this year. |

I think you're right. When I predicted earlier I expected slight, marginal improvement out of Mussina, but that's just sunshining. There is no reason to expect improvement, and if anything, he should be worse, as he has shown the ability to decline since being here quite well. One thing is for sure is he will not earn at least 10-13 million of his deal based on performance. Anyone else get the feeling with Moose like I do that the guy just goes through the motions? It appears he has no extra gear that most athletes need in them to excel past a point where talent diminishes. |
