New York Yankees veteran left-handed pitcher Al Leiter will pitch the 7th inning of Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cleveland Indians and then announce his retirement, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney has confirmed.

Leiter pitched for 19 years, amassing a career record of 162-132. Leiter began his career with the Yankees in 1987 before moving on to the Blue Jays, Marlins and Mets before second stints with the Marlins and Yankees.

I heard it on the radio this morning. Michael Kay called in and told them that Leiter (his boy) told him.

This isn't news. Al Leiter retired over a year ago.

Was surprised when they announced it during the game. At least he got his last batter out.

It was a bit abrupt. I suppose he signed a TV deal somewhere.

Not surprised seeing as how they pretty much announced it during the WBC, and besides that, anybody watching last season could tell he was pretty much done. Had a nice career for the most part, time to move on. I wouldn't be surprised to see him calling games on the Mets' new network.

Didn't he leave the Mets on a bad note? I think he was pissed at Omar. He should learn to play the triangle and be Springsteen's personal toilet paper.

it was fun to see him beat the sox at fenway, other than that he was a disgrace this year.
