Wright threw a few good games after getting off the DL last year too though. One decent Spring Training start isn't going to fool anybody. The guy is crap until he proves otherwise. |

I'm just saying I'm more confident in us getting something, anything from the guy than I was just last week when he didn't even look like a better option than Darrel Rasner and Matt DeSalvo. |

I didn’t get a chance to see the game. How about a little scouting report on Wright. How hard was he throwing? Did he have good movement on his pitches? How was his command? |

From what I saw the fastball had good movement and he was hitting spots well. There were a couple of Ks where the ball was right at the hitters' knees. |

Mussina showed him a new curveball grip and it proved to be effective. |

I didn't see a lot of Wright's games last year after he came back aside from the games he pitched well, but one problem I think he'll always have that will get him hurt is his command. He can't ever seem to put the ball exactly where he wants it even when he's going right and his velocity is no longer what it used to be by design, so he's got to go into every game with movement or he's toast. Hell, even with movement, he can be in trouble, since he can't control it and his ball will move right down the middle. The difference between him and Wang that I noticed, I compare, since both are similar in reportoire and velocity of their fastballs(Wright has more off-speed, but they rely on inducing groundballs), is that Wang gets away with pitches since he's got a heavier ball. If you notice, Wang doesn't have to live low in the zone. Wright needs to be down. I'm thinking that 04 was just one of those fluke years where he got the fastball down and located it better than normal, which would explain the low rate of HRs allowed. Plus, there's also the Sally League factor. It doesn't seem he has that in him on a consistant basis, since he's only done it once. I think the logic for getting him was he was a completely new pitcher after Mazzone worked with him, but there wasn't time, as in multiple seasons, to see if he was legit. Had he been able to translate from 04 to 05, I honestly think he'd have been our best starter. But then, look at what Loaiza was in 03, compared to 04. |

From Rotoworld: Jaret Wright hurt his back fielding bunts during a pregame drill and will be reevaluated Monday. The day after his best outing of the spring. If Wright didn't have bad luck... well, he is making $7 million this year, so he could be worse off. Of Course this would happen. :annoyed: |
