A very obviously under the weather Anna Benson, who confessed to being all hopped up on Sudafed, appeared on the Howard Stern Show this morning to promote her FHM cover shoot and new poker web site, goldenspiritpoker.com, which she referred to as "GoldDiggerPoker.com." But it was inevitable that the subject of her husband's exit from New York would come up.

Surprisingly, after only a brief discussion of Anna's oral prowess (and I don't mean how well she speaks), the conversation switched to Kris' trade from the Mets to the Orioles. Howard asked Anna about the allegations that she was the reason for Kris being traded, and charged that the Mets got "nothing" in return for him, to which Anna responded with a theory that the Mets made the trade because they needed balls. "So they traded him for a bag of balls. But you know what? They're still short on balls," she added.

How clever.

Anna spoke highly of Jim Duquette for being the person who has twice traded for Kris, and who signed him as a free agent. She admitted that she was always loyal to Duquette, not to Omar Minaya. She also repeatedly referred to Leo Mazzone as the "#1 pitching coach in the country," and said how happy Kris was to be working with him.

At one point, the usually silent Fred Norris asked Anna point blank, "Do you want to do things to hurt your husband? Because that's what you did." Her garbled, medicated response was something to the effect of, "What do you mean?"

Most of the phone calls she fielded resulted in her trading childish insults with the callers, who were absolutely brutal to her (and rightly so). But when one caller asked her how she could consider Kris' 10-8 season in 2005 a success, she responded that he also had 10 no decisions, and that "He eats innings! He eats innings!"

Like her or not (I don't), Anna is usually an interesting guest. Maybe it was the Sudafed, but that just wasn't the case today. Even with the freedom of satellite radio, she really wasn't any more candid (about the Mets, anyway), and didn't shed any more light on the situation with her and her husband's ouster from the Mets organization.
