Queens Tribune How does everyone feel about the Ebbets Field look? Personally I wish that it incorporated some Polo Ground features into it to signify the joint history At least a new stadium is coming though! |

F*ck Wilpon. Why didn't he just sell the Mets and buy the Dodgers when they were up for sale? Is there going to be an over hang 300’ from home plate to honor the polo grounds (actually 250' in the Polo Grounds)? Will we have a symphonic band and some old lady and a cow bell as the B’klyn Dodgers had? F*ck you again Wilpon. If you’re gonna honor some one how about the sign man from the Mets past? How about making it exclusively Mets. What about the dimensions? Are we going to see 12-11 games be the norm? The Stadium should be about the Mets and not about the Dodgers and Giants. Most of those fans are either in nursing homes or dead. |

Whoa, calm down Gate I think the Rotunda thing is what is being discussed, you know, having the entrance from behind home plate. I doubt its going to be an Ebbets Field replica I hear PNC Park is also going to serve as inspiration |

Get the sand out of your vagina. This isn't an exact clone........the model they unveiled in 2001 was a friggin clone. This will just share some of the niceties from Ebbetts and old ballparks in general. Damn.... |

All Wilpon likes to talk about is how he played on the same HS team as Sandy Koufax and Wilpon pitched and Koufax played 1st base. I think you will see a lot of Ebbets field in the new ballpark. In fact I have hush, hush photos that were used as a prototype. Posted Image Posted Image |

Don’t you find the photos of the new park charming? The ball park will determine the character of future Met teams. So parks are a big deal. |

What is wrong with you? It's not going to look like a ballpark from the 1940's. It's going to share one or two features modernly updated. There are tons of new ballparks in the league that have retro things in them. It's not something to freak out over that's for sure. |

Nobody is freaking out over it but you can build a park to have a look and feel of a 1940’s park (actually Ebbets goes back a lot further than the 1940’s) and still have all the modern amenities and none of the weaknesses of the old park (posts that block the line of vision, etc.). I’m more concerned about interior dimensions, irregular shapes, amount of foul ball territory while you are more concerned about where the bathrooms are (which at my age should be more of a concern for me) and where the food concessions are. I would also like to see a tribute to Mets history in the park. |

I'm sure there will be all that.......it's gonna be a new ballpark, not a clone of a 1920's stadium. |

So long as it has the same dimensions and stays as a pitchers park, I am happy |

I'd much rather it gain the reputation of being neutral, or compromise and have a short LF or RF and long power alleys |

The problem with a asymmetrical stadium is that it forces you to build a team for the stadium to give you a home court advantage but can kill you b/c 1. you become venerable on the road 2. a great talent can become somewhat useless if his strengths are negated by the ballpark 3. a small park can destroy your pitching staff and make it impossible to build a winner 4. the draft makes it difficult to select the best talent available and target that player for the park. There is nothing wrong with a uniform stadium. Dodger Stadium is neutral and one of the most beautiful ballparks (and older the Shea). I was around before they built the cookie cutter parks and I can tell you the fans rejoiced when the cookie cutter parks were built. The old parks had all the irregularities that you want and the fans got tired of them. |

Dodger Stadium is anything BUT neutral. It is one of the best pitchers parks in baseball Get your head out of your ass here Gate, Retro is the way to go. New Busch, PNC, SBC, Citizens Bank, etc. The newest stadiums are at least slightly asymmetrical |

Talk about getting your head out of your ass do you know that the fences were moved in at Dodger Stadium some years ago. It was once a pitchers park and at night the ball did not travel there. When they moved the fences in it become a neutral park. Anyone who is not with the now agenda of the youth of today has their head up their ass. Everybody is supposed to get with it because it’s happening. Like lemmings running to their death. Just because all the parks are built to resemble old time parks doesn’t mean it’s better. It’s just different and a novelty to the people who only know the cookie cutter parks. But I have lived through both and I like the fairer parks. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. |
