The Second Base Situation…
At this point, Anderson Hernandez is the preferred option to start at second base, according to team insiders. If Hernandez takes charge, as many hope he will, Bret Boone will eventually be cut, while one of Kaz Matsui or Jeff Keppinger could be traded…
If Hernandez falters, the job will most likely be rewarded to the best defensive second baseman, regardless of salary and hitting ability…
In other words, at second base, defensive is key…
The Manny Situation…
The Sox continue to want a top prospect in return for OF Manny Ramirez, i.e., Mets OF Lastings Milledge or Angels SS Brandon Wood…
No team, however, seems interested in trading such a prospect…
The Celebration Situation…
The Mets have invited a collection of players from their 1986 team to participate in a celebration of that season’s championship. The reunion is scheduled for Aug. 19…
However, the buzz around Shea is that some of the former-players are asking to be paid for the appearance, which could end up reducing the number of players in attendance…
The Television Situation…
People connected with talks between SNY, DirecTV, DISH, Cablevision, and so on, continue to tell me that I am worrying too much about the state of their respective negotiations. One thing remains consistent regardless of whom I speak with, though, in that whatever takes place, an announcement will occur at the last possible minute…
I sense more positive language from those associated with SNY, as opposed to those with Cablevision…
Regardless, it sounds to me like you will begin to see hard news on this subject around the time SNY begins announcing their program schedule in early-March…
Speaking of television…
The producers of Mets Weekly, a television show that will air on SportsNet New York, invited me, Greg from Faith and Fear in Flushing, Andrew from MetsGeek, Chris from Miracle Mets, and Steve from the Eddie Kranepool Society into New York City yesterday to sit down for a roundtable discussion about blogging and the Mets, which will hopefully air in late-March…
We all sat tightly around a wooden coffee table, which was covered in Mets memorabilia, while the show’s host, Siafa Lewis, sat front-n-center. Lights, microphones and cameras starred us straight in the face, and the room was mind-altering hot…
Lewis, who will be SNY’s roving reporter during the season, was very charming, intelligent and seemingly un-phased by the collection of rambling Internet geeks surrounding him, specially the one to his left…
This was my first experience meeting other Mets bloggers. Andrew and I have chatted by phone on occasion, as well as by Instant Messenger, but to meet face-to-face was a nice change. He and I, plus Steve, talked briefly in the hall way just outside the show’s set, and being familiar with each other’s work made it feel like we had known one another for much longer…
During the roundtable we all talked quite extensively about blogging, which is something I can discuss forever, it seems. I fear I may have come off sounding a bit self-centered, which is hardly my personality as those who know me will attest, but the topic of blogging and my site seem to spark an unfamiliar passion within me. Hopefully I am wrong and just being overly critical of my work, as usual…
Thanks to Siafa, Chris, Steve, Greg and Andrew, as well as the the entire staff at SNY for a unique and exciting experience…
