The Island B

Taken from IMDB:

Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid 21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island" - reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones. Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson). Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers.

Good movie by Michael Bay. Very different from what I thought it would be, but entertaining none the less. It looks great from a visual standpoint. A lot of good action in this very long film.

IMDB has it at 6.9/10.

I liked this movie quite a bit.

Yeah. The movie was underrated by critics, but movie fans seem to like it overall.

Payback B+

Taken from IMDB:

What was supposed to be a routine robbery turns into a double cross when Porter's wife and his best friend shoot him and leave him for dead. But things take a turn for the bizarre when Porter recuperates seeking revenge for the money he was swiped out of....only to learn that the money is now in the hands of a crime organization. He's determined to get the money back and his many encounters include his less than likeable ex-partner, a sniveling crook, two corrupt cops, a brutal dominatrix, and one very lethal crime boss.

This is one of those movies where you'll like it more after a second view. The comedy and action scenes were very good and the direction was good as well. Mel Gibson was great in this movie. I'd go as far as to say that this was one of Gibson's best roles to date.

IMDB has it at 6.8/10.

The Crush C

Taken from IMDB:

An investigative journalist moves into a garage apartment owned by a well-to-do family. The 14-year-old daughter, a prodigy, develops a crush on him. When he acquires a new lady friend she becomes insanely jealous and begins a diabolical revenge strategy that threatens to destroy the journalist's life and friends.

Can't really recommend this movie to anyone. The acting is pretty bad and the story is very inconsistent. While it's not a good movie by any means, I did find it to be entertaining. Overall, it's nothing more than a below average movie.

IMDB has it at 5.1/10.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning C-

Taken from IMDB:

On one last road trip before they're sent to serve in Vietnam, two friends (Handley and Bomer) and their girlfriends (Baird and Brewster) get into an accident that calls their local sheriff (Ermey) to the scene. Thus begins a terrifying experience where the teens are taken to a secluded house of horrors, where a young, would-be killer is being nurtured.

Below average horror movie. But what do you expect when every single TCM film has been a disappointment after the 1974 original?

IMDB has it at 5.7/10.

Saw III B+

Taken from IMDB:

Jigsaw kidnaps a doctor to keep him alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen through a brutal test.

Pretty good horror movie. This movie will explain everything that needed to be explained in the original and part II. Saw III has the usual twists in it and is easily one of the most gory films I have ever seen. Fans of the first two should like it. If you did not like Saw or Saw II, just stay away from this movie.

IMDB has it at 7.3/10.

The Amityville Horror (2005) C+

Taken from IMDB:

George & Kathy Lutz and Kathy's 3 children are moving into an elegant Long Island home. What they don't know is that 6 gruesome murders were committed there the year before - Ronald DeFeo Jr., the oldest son in the family, murdered his parents, his 2 brothers & 2 sisters by shooting them with a .35 caliber in November of 1974. No sooner are the Lutzes moved into the house than they begin seeing horrible things

Decent horror movie. Fans of the original and ghost movies should check it out.

IMDB has it at 5.8/10.

The Prestige B+

Taken from IMDB:

A mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy -- full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences. From the time that they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry.

Very good film involving Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. One of the wierdest movies I have ever seen, but in a good way. The ending was great, though the film was a bit depressing overall. In the end, I think everyone should check it out. Even if you think it sucks, the movie would still be worth watching for being unique.

IMDB has it at 8.1/10. That puts it as #247 greatest movie of all time, according to the fans.

The Basketball Diaries B-

Taken from IMDB:

Film adaptation of street tough Jim Carroll's epistle about his kaleidoscopic free fall into the harrowing world of drug addiction

Decent movie which happens to be overrated by many. The movie shows how drugs can ruin your life.

IMDB has it at 6.8/10.

Closer B+

Taken from IMDB:

Smart-but-ineffectual journalist Dan "We use euphemisms!" cant decide between his girlfriend, loving-but-clingy waitress Alice, or his lover cold-but-intellectual photographer Anna. Anna herself cant decide between Dan and honest-but-thuggish "You're bloody gorgeous!" doctor Larry. The film, as Tarantino might put it, puts the four leading characters in a box and then takes them apart.

Very good movie. Good acting, interesting story, and despisable characters. One of the more rewatchable movies I've seen.

IMDB has it at 7.4/10.

Good Will Hunting B+

Taken from IMDB:

A janitor at MIT, Will Hunting (Matt Damon) has a gift for maths that can take him light-years beyond his blue-collar roots, but to achieve his dream he must turn his back on the neighborhood and his best friend (Ben Affleck). To complicate matters, two strangers enter the equation: a washed-up shrink (Robin Williams) who starts to coach Will through his transformation, and a med student (Minnie Driver) who shows him that there can be a pretty face along with his life of the mind.

Great movie. This movie put Matt Damon on the map thanks to his acting in this film. A little slow at times, but I can't imagine a movie like this going at a faster pace. The leading actress (Minnie Driver) did a good job, but I wish they could have gotten a more attractive chick for the role. But whatever, check this movie out.

IMDB has it at 7.9/10.

If Scarlett showed her tits I'd have given it a B+. I'd say more like a C+ - B-
She is a straight up dime piece, one of the best I've seen on the big screen. No doubt.

I started writing about Gattica, which I saw for the first time a few weeks ago, then I asked myself "what the f*ck am I doing?" And I deleted about 400 words worth of a review. F*ck it.
