Yeah, I apparently either fractured my spine or have a slipped or bulging disc in my back, either of which are apparently pressing on a nerve. It makes my left leg semi-paralyzed/bad limp standing up, sitting down, rolling over, little movements etc... cause a severe twinge/spasim in my low left back by the base of my spine. Bad enough that I cant drive cause of braking and turning. Its only the low left back and basically my knee/hamstring and down (that also can go numb) Reason I bring it up is I gotta wait probably atleast another 10 days befoer I get the MRI and results. So I was wondering if anyone has had any fun experience with this stuff that could tell me what it might be. Knowing nothing is driving me insane. |

I had that a couple of years ago. I didn't officially go to the doctor, but I am friends with one, and she said it was siatica. It's something more common in older people. It's related to your back, but the pain extends to your legs. I had it off and on for a couple of months, sometimes days at a time. It sounds like what you might be having now. There's no cure for it, but luckily I haven't had it in awhile. |

when the pain in your leg gets bad it basically feels like you sprained your knee, broke the bone below your knee and pulled your hamstring all at the same time? And then it gets better if you lay down for a little bit |

My pain was a ridiculously painful shooting pain up and down my leg. The first time I had it I woke up in the middle of the night and thought it was just a leg cramp, but it kept going for days. This isn't definitely the same thing, but it sounds like you're feeling some of the same stuff. I didn't lie down. I'd try to stretch it out, but I didn't know if that was working since it would keep coming back. |

That sucks. Hopefully it's more of a temporary problem like Matt23 had. |

devs, good luck with that. it all comes down to the mri. when the pain gets into your legs, that's where you're dealing with herniated discs and bad breaks and nerve damage. if it's serious, you might have it the rest of your life. it's something where at it's worse surgery doesn't even guarantee success. just hope the mri comes up negative or it shows something minor. anything serious, you'll most likely have for life when it comes to the back unfortunately. what spurred the injury? |

thanks guys Cano, as far as what caused it, I constantly play through nicks and pains in Hockey and I was playing on a slightly torn calf (that heals own its own with rest) and then compensation for that made my back sore and damaged the nerve supposedly. Then I played with that for about a month cause I thought it was just soreness. Cause id be hurtin sunday night and pretty much OK by wednesday. Kinda degenerated over time and gave out completely a week or two ago |

im no back expert, but what you got doesn't sound like it's long-term. i mean, if you told me you got slammed on your neck during a game and your leg went numb immediately and sh*t, i'd be concerned. then again, what do i know |

well thats good. I dont think its anything long term either cause a few weeks ago I could still move laterally and drop down and just feel the twinge in my back, for some reason it gave out like 2 weeks ago and went from a bad limp to "ow I cant walk" shooting in my lrg |

It hurts my leg more than my back. any other questions id be happy to answer............. mine dosent warrent surjery, the doc told me it would take 6 months to a 2 years to go away and sure enough it got better and better. Now it just pops up once and a while. I know for more sever disk issues u may need surjery. |

You mean referring you all over the place? Absolutely. And what bugs me about that is they don't even check to see if the person they are recommending is covered by your insurance. I once had to pay out of pocket for a cortisone shot, since I used to assume doctors referred you based on whether the reference took your insurance. |

Ah, be lucky you're not blind in one eye like my brother, a piece of glass flew in his eye when he was about 14, sad, sad thing :no1: |

No offense to your brother, but how is this relevant? The dude has a bad back. He should consider having a bad back lucky because he could see out of both eyes? Bad backs are serious things, especially for someone who plays hockey, and who knows what other sports. Devils is young. Starting with back issues at his age could suck long-term. |

Agreed. I'd rather be blind in an eye than have the back pain I do, although it is irrelevant to the subject. I don't consider myself lucky at all, and neither should or does Devs. |

Both suck. Back problems stay with you till you die. Lose an eye and you not only lose the site in the area normally covered by that eye but you lose depth perception. I had a friend you was blind in one eye and when driving he could never gauge his distance from the car in front of him (everything is 2 dimensional). I was always amazed that Wesley Walker was as good as he was since he had vision in only one eye. BTW if you lose hearing in one ear you lose the ability to tell the direction the sound is coming from. Doug if you send me your address I’ll send over a couple of escort girls. When they finish with you either you will be cured or a paraplegic. |

Nobody wants either. Didn't mean to trivialize partial blindness |
