I saw this film when i was younger, but i sat down and watched it last night at the age of 19, when id like to think I'm more mature, and more of a man (bleh.)

Anyway...great flick. It really makes you realize how there are good in every race...and very bad. The stupid black kid (SPOILER AHEAD) who at the end shoots Edward Furlong of the movie, hes an evil scumbag. But what about Lamont, the guy who does the laundry with Edward Norton in prison? Hes a good guy, victimized by circumstances. I think the movie is not a solution to racial problems, but rather, its meant to show what isnt the solution. I keep on thinking of this quote

"Bob Sweeney: There was a moment... when I used to blame everything and everyone... for all the pain and suffering and vile things that happened to me, that I saw happen to my people. Used to blame everybody. Blamed white people, blamed society, blamed God. I didn't get no answers 'cause I was asking the wrong questions. You have to ask the right questions.
Derek Vinyard: Like what?
Bob Sweeney: Has anything you've done made your life better? "

After that, Edward Norton has no answer to the question. What did being a racist and terrorizing minorities help? Did it bring his father back from the dead? The answer is no. Its just a movie, but its a good one, and i forgot how good it was.

Norton was great in this movie, as he always is.
