I have a hard time ranking my pantheon movies, but both Shawshank and The Godfather are in it.

Oh yeah, it's Dogs. I know Shawshank is on your list and it was a special film for you. That got the ol' brain twisted up.

i hate tim robbins with a passion and you can argue he's one of the worst human beings that resides in this country, but you gotta give him props for his job in shawshank redemption. "andy duphrane. crawled through a river of sh*t and came out clean on the other side." so prophetic.

nothing's cooler than al pacino strutting down the driveway after he's "taken care of business" the story is just great, following pacino from a war hero to powerful mob boss. i can't differentiate what's better though, godfather 1 or godfather 2. i freakin love that scene in godfather 2 where tom hagen goes to visit frank pantangelie and they talk about history, while at the same time agreeing to commit suicide

i know people will disagree with me, but goodfellas felt like it missed some scenes to me. it was a great story, but it felt like the director's cut out like an hour of scenes. you skip years left and right in that movie. i know it's the story of their lives, but they could have put more detail. with either godfather, it didn't feel like anything important was omitted.

GoodFellas is in my pantheon too. I assume if it were 3 hours long like The Godfather, they would have covered more of his life without jumping around. I actually think it is perfect as is. That extra half hour probably could have been easily filled though.

i add raging bull to all time greats. not necessarily the story line, because i found it a bit depressing, but deniro did such a superb job and the ending with him in jail was just unreal. my emotions were on high during that whole movie. the fight scene with sugar ray robinson was brutal. "you didn't knock me down, ray." what a man. a dick as a person, but what a man. people just aren't tough like that anymore

Never seen that one but I want to.

I agree that Goodfellas was missing something that kept it from being a great movie. I like it, but it's not a "Wow" movie. I think they went into enough detail about Henry's life, but it's just something that was lacking. The Godfather I look at as a classic film. Goodfellas is a funny 1990s movie.

Examine that sentence for a second. Cano thinks one can argue that a guy being as liberal as they come, but from what I know, a law abiding citizen is one of the worst human beings residing in the U.S. over murderers, rapists, child molestors, etc, etc? This is an example of when politics are taken just a tad too seriously.

There are more things that lead up to that. But I was reading an old thread about the shawshank Redemption and some of the views are quite similar to a certain LFW

Speculative. We don't know anything. For all we know, LFW could've died in a motorcycle accident. All this finger pointing and accusing. :no1:

you guys haven't done your reading on tim robbins, apparently. i know too much of tim robbins and have seen too much of tim robbins to just say his name without having abhor. some of the worst people in this country, if you want to be technical, are "law-abiding citizens" i think its simplistic to think that makes or breaks someone as a human being. there's totally legal ways to be a douchebag like ive said before

i take it you never saw the sundance(or was it bravo) special on fahrenheit 9/11 that i watched because i was too tired to change the channel. tim robbins goes on a tirade about essentially the fact that this country needs a violent overthrow. yeah, what a model human being. please, know your facts before you try and condescend me. please

Scent of a Woman is cheesy but Pacino gives a great performance and it really tells a sad yet wonderful story.

I bought Deer Hunter (cuz Amit said so) and it's not as good as you'd think. It has stretches of "What the f*ck?" and "Damn, this is boring." It picks up from the middle on, but it just gets weird and almost seems incomplete and then the resolution is rushed. It'll leave you like, "Wuh....it's missing something. And this is supposed to be a great movie?" Good movie, but don't go in expecting anything special.
