it is because of this man: Posted Image and this man now: Posted Image ponder runs as fast as he possibly can, not worrying about cutting and looking for holes, while dayne/now jacobs just lead the way. Cuz they are running backs they know where the hole will develop and which one is the best one to take. With that we will average 30 yards per. |

Yeah, I was telling a friend earlier today. The return game isn't so much Ponder (he's isn't that fast or agile), but the blockers. We've gotten some great blocking on kick returns - have since middle of last season - and it might be spreading to the punts now. On that 95 yarder, Willie didn't have to make 2 moves and he wasn't touched once. And there's not much penetration up the middle of the field. The G-Men can wedge it like a MUDDA f*ckA! This is the kind of blocking the Eagles had that made Brian Mitchell not look like an overweight washed up RB. One thing that bothered me though was the Chad Morton return(s). The effects of the ACL are still there. He didn't have the burst he used to or even the top speed. On the TD, that punter came pretty close to him and he wasn't even able to pull away; he just kept pace and made it in. |

That is the case with many special team units in the league, not just the Giants and Ponder. You have some guys with elusive moves, but many teams have a burner and effective blockers. Wasn't Dayne inactive a few weeks last year anyway? I know he didn't get into any games two years ago, but I am pretty sure Coughlin didn't dress him for a few last year too. Morton will hopefully regain stength as the year goes on. For a guy who didn't play in one preseason game, missed about half of last season, and was signed at the last second, he did a nice job. Even if he's 75% of what he was during his big year on the Jets, he will fit this role well. I love the signing. |

ya they do block well for him. He isnt a great KR guy cause hes the fastest, he has good blocking, and he jsut has the instincts to get aroun the other team and get yards |
