He said, "No way were we going to lose at home on this date, for this great city. There was no way." And kept reiterating that. Question: Would he have brought that sh*t up if they had lost? And if the "We will not lose" thing works, then shouldn't they do the same for every game or pretend every Sunday is September 11th? Heck, he didn't even have the conviction to say "We shall overcome because its 9/11" at halftime....when they were losing. :please:

That's a little weak, but I won't knock him for it since he has personal ties to the attacks because his son worked in the WTC. You're right though, if they lost, you wouldn't have heard it. He might have gone with a variation, such as, "I really wish we could have won for the home fans on this emotional day for our nation, but especially our city." I don't buy the play every Sunday like it's 9/11 though. That's cheapening what the real days means. Yes, they should always play with heart and passion, but it doesn't work that way.

Exactly what he would've said.

I didn't make it clear but what I meant was that emotion and motivation goes but so far. The Saints were saying similar things after their win. Its execution and Xs & Os that gets it done, not fire in the belly. Not saying motivation doesn't help, but the 9/11 anniversary isn't why they won and I think it had very little to do with it.

Agreed. They might have wanted it for the fans, but the fans always want to see wins, anniversary or not. I still can't knock Coughlin for that comment though.
